Re: Teachers:Who's keeping their maiden name at work?
I am adding my maiden name as a second middle name and taking FH's last name as my new surname. I dont like hyphenation. To me it complicates things. My students can learn my new name. I can make a lesson for them. There are only 8 in my class. I worry more about the secretary in the front office who makes the announcements. She isnt the sharpest knife in the block and is not hooked on phonics so her articulation is lacking.

This is what I worry about. I don't want to spend the whole year correcting everyone...so statusquo is just fine.

Yes, kids will adjust. I teach high school AP and college classes and if they can't learn a new name...
I've taught with so many teachers over the last few years who answer to both and give into the kids not wanting to remember a new name.
MY SOLUTION: I'm just not answering to the old one. when I ignore them then they'll get it. Oh, and I'm doing this for adults and students alike.

Re: Teachers:Who's keeping their maiden name at work?
I hypenated legally, but at work I am just using the maiden name. It's easier that way, and to be honest I didn't really want to give up my maiden name.

Re: Teachers:Who's keeping their maiden name at work?
I had a lot of teachers in school who kept their maidne names professionally because they didn't want their students to be able to track them down

Re: Teachers:Who's keeping their maiden name at work?
but are you guys changing it legally??
my district told me that if i change it legally that it will be hard for me to keep using my maiden name... because my mailbox would have to say my legal name, plus all paperwork, etc... and then that would confuse everyone

Yes, your paycheck, medical, insurance, etc. would all have to be in one name.
Personally, I'm in the midest of changing this over this week and I can't wait to get it done. I feel like I have a split personality. If I pay with my Am EX I have to write Ms. H but I have my new Discover so I'm Mrs. K. I can't wait for it to be over. I hate signing two different names. I always have to think, ok who am I supposed to be now.
Yes, it's FMIL's name and we are BOTH teachers and drive the same car... LOL.
Oh, and yes, as soon as we move we are listing the phone in my maiden name for one reason only... We do not want to pay the unlisted fee and I do not want students tracking me down. They (hs kids) "visited" my Dad's house last year for Halloween and scared the crap out of him. He is disbaled and home bound. They were good kids but you would be scared too in his situation if 5 18 year old boys showed up at your door at 8:30. My co-workers husband works for customs and she has to have everything for their house listed under her maiden name so if he is ever taken hostage, etc. the perps can never find her and the kids
