Repost from BHB--How far in advance did you buy your dress?
How far in advance did you order your wedding dress? I am getting married in June and have looked 2 times (1st with MOH and 2nd with Mom...who kept saying how beautiful all the dresses were and that they would look great on me if I would lose some weight ) So, now needless to say, I am trying to lose weight...about 30 pounds...do I have time to do this or should I just find a gown and order it to fit now and have it altered later? Just concerned b/c what if I do lose 30 pounds or so and it's too big and they can't take it in that much?
So confused??? And a little sad

don't be sad. if u feel u wanna lose some weight first, u still have some time. it depends on where r go too. i've heard that ladies are waiting 9 months. my salon told me 6 months. i bought my dress back in march. don't know how true that is. i'll find out in september.
good luck. hope i was able to help a lil.

Re: Repost from BHB--How far in advance did you buy your dress?
Don't worry! I'm trying to lose 20 before my wedding, and I'm right after you. I ordered my dress in a size 12, and it was snug. They told me at the shop that 10 lbs equals a size. Since I'm a perfect size 14 according to my measurements, I can lose the 20 and they only have to take the dress in one size. But, I am only doing this because at most all I have to lose is 5-7 lbs, and I can lose up to 20 if I want. Depending on your dress, you may be able to take it in 2 sizes. Mine can only be taken in one since there is lace that I would lose if I took it in any more. So, if you are confident that you can lose at least 5 lbs, you could order your dress snug, so there is no pressure to lose a lot, but you could lose probably 20 lbs and be fine. 30 might be hard. Also, don't forget if you wear a long line strapless bra, that will suck you in, and makes it a lot more flattering. It almost looks like you dropped 15 lbs without doing anything. So I wouldn't worry at all. Find the dress you love, then tell the woman at the bridal shop your situation, and she can suggest a size for you.

Some designers can take a while for the dress to come in. Mine is EOM and all stores said it could take anywhere from 8 to 12 months!! I ordered it about a month ago.

Re: Repost from BHB--How far in advance did you buy your dress?
it depends on the maker- the salon should be able to tell you.
also, David's sells off the rack and so do most designers at sample sales
I do want to say though that I think it's sad that you were made to feel like you have to lose weight to look beautiful on your wedding day. if you want to lose weight before that's fine, but you don't have to be thinner to look beautiful. get the dress that flatters the body you have- maybe do like one of the other girls (sorry) suggested and buy it one size too small- but ONLY do this if you will be committed to lose the weight healthfully.
losing 30 pounds is a big deal that you may not be able to take on at this point with wedding planning....and you don't have to. your fh loves you for who you are, and you will look beautiful no matter what size your dress comes in.
Good luck!

Re: Repost from BHB--How far in advance did you buy your dress?
I am doing the same thing. I ordered my dress last month, and they told me it takes about 4-6 months to come in.
I'm also a perfect bridal size 14, and although I plan on losing about 20-30 lbs, the saleswoman told me to "maintain my weight" so that the dress will fit me perfectly. I was kind of offended by that.
How far in advance also depends on the maker. I know Eve of Milady gowns take about a year to come in!! I would check the lead time on the gowns you're interested in.
And don't worry about sizing if you lose weight!! It's a LOT easier to take it in than to let it out!!

Re: Repost from BHB--How far in advance did you buy your dress?
I just ordered mine last weekend. The dress shop told me that it might take up to 10 months to come in.
I wouldn't wait to loose 30 pounds before you buy a dress. To loose 30 pounds the healthy way,( exercise and eating right) it may take you 6 months to a year.
I am sure you looked beautiful in the dresses you tried on. Order a dress that is a size smaller then you are now. This way you can always take your dress in, if it is to big.
Good Luck!!!!!!!

I agree. It takes too long for the dress to come in. Remember they can always do alterations if you shed some pounds.
