Placecards -- Mr. and Mrs. John Smith or John and Jane Smith?
I'm sending my table assignments to the calligrapher and I'm not sure how to do the placecards -- i know that both are "correct' but which is "better"  :
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
Table 1
or
John and Jane Smith
Table 1

I think the first one sounds more formal - I think I am using the Mr. & Mrs. version.

Is it possible to to
Mr. and Mrs. John and Mary Smith?
I'm sure either is fine, sometimes I feel like Mr. and Mrs. John Smith doesn't fully recognize the female half of that partnership, as she gets subsumed under husband's name.
But....this is NOT something you should spend more than 10 seconds worrying about!!!

I did first and last names...only because this is the "intimate" part of the event and I wanted my guests to feel welcome...I found titles too formal...but it's your day sweetie!

I've got no clue. I'm sure my calligrapher is going to tell me that the non-married couples won't fit onto the card with titles, so that will probably decide it for me

I personally hate the Mr. and Mrs. John Smith stuff. As a woman, I find it offensive to be referred to as Mrs. John Smith. I have an identity! I contribute to society! I am NOT anyone's property! This isn't 1890!
And, I would have to be Dr. John Smith, anyway (I have a PhD)! (I'll step off my soapbox now)
As an aside, if one was using the Mr. and Mrs. John Smith method, but the woman only had a doctoral level degree, would you use Mr. and Dr. John Smith??????

I totally agree - I never refer to a married woman as Mrs. husband's name - I dont care if the etiquette books say it's proper - it's time for that to change!
my placecards will vary according to the couple - some will be Mr. and Mrs. John and Mary Smith, most will be Mr. and Ms. John and Mary Smith.
I just got my doctorate and my FH said that he wants to be introduced as "Dr. and Mr. Deirdre and Neil his last name."
