OMG! Dress crisis! I need support...updated at bottom
Girls I feel like I am going to be sick...
I had gotten my dress off-the-rack. There is very little adjustments that need to be made...just the length of the gown, which right before I gave them any money they told my mother and I they wouold be able to adjust. When I had gone w/ my MOH for her to order her gown they said they had to take measurements of her height then because they had to order the gown adjusted hollow-to-hem because of the detail going around the bottom. They said the manufacturer does this adjustment...it's ordered that way. I too have a lot of detail going around the bottom so I got a little concerned. So, to ease my mind (after a nightmare about it) I called the bridal salon where I got it. Their response was "I don't know"! I have to bring the gown in today now for the seamstress to look at it to see if it's possible for my dress to be altered by them. The girl on the phone said "well we can put you in a really poufy slip and heels, maybe that will do it" I told her that I had a full slip on when I tried it on last time and it still is way too long. So now I am so stressed out! My mom and I discussed it and we agreed that if they do claim they can do it, to have the length altered now instead of a couple of months before the wedding so if there is any problems and I need a new dress, I will be able to get one. I am so upset and angry...I love this dress and I spent a lot of money on it. If I need to get a new dress now, then I lost all of that money!!! This is the second time I have called that salon and have had 2 different things told to me.

Re: OMG! Dress crisis! I need support
If they can not fix the problem can they possibly credit the amount already paid to the same dress ordered direct from the manufacturer.

oh boy. just try to keep your emotions under control when dealing with them. i know it will be hard, but be all business instead of a "hysterical" bride ( I lvoe that- they mess something up and then blame you for being upset!!) if they tell you in can't be altered by their seamstress. it is definitely their fault for giving you misinformation. perhaps you should remind them of that fact.
good luck- prayers and hugs!

Re: OMG! Dress crisis! I need support
I'm sorry I know that it is up to the manufacturer whether or not they do hem to hollow. My dress is hem to hollow, but there was another dress that I wanted to try on but couldn't because that manufacturer doesn't do hem to hollow. I'm 5'1 and all the detailing on the bottom would have to be all cut off for it to fit. So it just depends. If you bought it off the rack, was it a sample then? Because hem to hollow is only if you are ordering a new dress, they actually make the dress to your height. Did you pay for the dress in full? Could you see if you could possibly pay a little more on top of that to possibly order a new dress instead? And if your manufacturer doesn't do hem to hollow, you could do what I ended up doing, which was buying it in petite. After they did my hem to hollow, which came to 55", they realized that the petite size was the same length, so they ordered that and it was less expensive. I'm sure there are a few options that you could go with. Good luck, and keep us posted (no pun, really)

Re: OMG! Dress crisis! I need support
The problem is that I believe the dress has been discontinued, so I am not sure if they can order it from the manufacturer anymore. If they can, then I'll be more then happy to do that. It was a sample that they just got in that was in perfect condition...and I saved some extra money by doing that. I feel so stupid. It's just really hard to keep my emotions in check w/ this...it's going to be a struggle to fight the tears if they say they can not fit this dress to me. The only hope I have is that it does have a seam on the waist that maybe they can detatch and adjust there. The woman on the phone really gave me a panic though. Here is a picture of my dress.

Re: OMG! Dress crisis! I need support
I tried on your gown (it was one of my final choices) and I was told that due to the work on the bottom of the dress, they would take the dress apart at the waist and cut from the waist section (thereby shortening it)and put it back together again after.
The dress I finally went with also has a lot of lace and bead work at the bottom and it will be altered in length this same way.
I hope that made sense.

That's what I was told originally, but now I am getting another story. Glad that I am not crazy though...they did say that to someone else too! Hopefully when I get to actually talk to the seamstress she will say everything will be fine. I still think I will do what my mom says and have them fit the height now just in case.

You have the dress in your posession right now? You could consider taking it to a few different bridal shops and see what they say. You'll feel better if you find a place that you have confidence in. There is no law that says you have to have your dress altered at the same place that you bought it from.
ETA: english teachers, I'm so sorry for my bad grammar. I just read my post, and shuddered.

Why don't you try going to a dressmaker? They might be able to alter it for you without having to ruin the detail.

Re: OMG! Dress crisis! I need support
Ok, I just got back from the bridal salon and it will be taken up from the waist and they will also do some fixing up of the dress too (I pointed out some beeding by the zipper looked a little loose. The owner came up and apologized, she said she had forgotten which dress was mine. I must have lost wieght too because the top fit perfect...like how I want it to fit on the day of the wedding! I feel a lot better. From now on if I have a question I am asking it in person. I seem to run into trouble when I make phone calls.
On the bright side though I think I found a nice bridesmaid dress

Re: OMG! Dress crisis! I need support...updated at bottom
If they have good people working there, they can do miracles with alterations. My mom ordered a dress for my brother's wedding. She had detailed beading all along the bottom of the dress. It was too long, so they hemmed it. The woman actually moved all of the beads up to make the exact same design. You would have never known. Good luck!
