So I completed my first day teaching summer school..
I teach secondary math. So I am teaching 9 kids in this 11th grade class and come to find out 5 of them are seniors who need this class to get their diploma. They should be enjoying their summer before college. One kid was trying to sleep in my class 5 minutes after he tells me he needs to pass so he can get his diploma. Mind you, the class started at 10:40 a.m. not at the crack of dawn !!
I continue to go into shock over some of my students.

I have found that they just don't care!! Even the overachievers will do the least amount of work to get a good grade!
Not that I LOVED schoolwork but I did it! and most of the time, not half a**ed either!
It's sad that they can't even get it together to GRADUATE!!!

Just tell them what I told my classes this morning...
"If you don't participate, or if you choose to sleep through the class, you can be removed from the program, and will not recieve credit for the class!"
I have ZERO tolerance for trouble-makers in Summer School

Me too- I already had one girl call me a "white *****" today, and being the sucker that I am, I allowed her back in. But if she does so much as look at me sideways, she's toast.
The summer supervisor is claiming that they will just remove kids who are disruptive. I really hope she stands behind that, as I have quite a crew this year...

I agree. I started today, and they complain about the amount of work they have to do.
Well if you PASSED the class during the year, you wouldnt BE HERE!!!!!!
