repost Lif- My dog is missing-UPDATED I think I found her!!
Hi everyone! I had this posted on LIF but thought it would help if it put it here too! If anyone lives in the Shirly/ Mastic/ Smiths Point area please keep a look out for my dog!! She was staying with friends until I could pick her up on Sat. She apparently was let out on Friday night at 9pm and never returned. I was not told about this until late Sat. I have searched for her for the past 2 days and no one has seen her. There is an ad in Newsday with a reward for her safe return. I have called all and went to all the Animal Shelters, emergency clinics and highway and county road patrols and noone has seen her. She is approx 70-80lbs purebread German Shepard all Black. She answers to Midnite or Middy. She may be wearing her red collor but I am not sure since i havent seen her. She doesnt know the area and neither do I so I have no idea as to where she could have gone. If anyone knows anyone who lives out there or does live out there, please keep an eye out for her!! The ad for Newsday will hit tomorrow and it will have my cell listed. Thanks for the help!! Her family is heartbroken

Thank you. I called the shelter again and they told me a black shepard was brought in on sun. I rushed down there and it wasnt her. The dog wasnt even black or a german shepard! Here is a pic of her.

OMG. This happened to my family about 15 years ago. I was beside myself with worry over my Niko. She had no ID on her and I called everywhere. Turns out a woman found her and spoiled her for two days. She even kicked her husband out of the bedroom to sleep with my dog because she was crying.
She had called the North Shore Animal League the day before and so did I but the person working that day didn't make the possible match. It took until the next day for the person who was working the phones to put two and two together.
I hope she comes home real soon.

Thanks everyone for keeping an eye for her. I am hopeful that someone saw her and took her in. My only hope is they dont decide to keep my Middy. She's a good, loyal dog and her family is just beyond heartbroken. I just want to have her home or get some closure to know what happened to her even if it isnt the news I am praying for.

You might want to write on her flyers that she is on medication. That way if a family finds her, they might not want to keep her.

Shoot I didnt even think of that!! Thats a good idea. I have to find this dog one way or another, it will be my life mission. The "friends" she were staying at are not really friends at all as far as I am concerec. There is really more to this story, she is actually my BIL dog but he has lived with us for so long that she is my dog as well. My bil is sick and will be in a facility until Oct. He doesnt know about his dog yet and we are afraid to tell him because we dont want it to affect his progress of getting better. This dog has been through EVERYthing with him, his divorce his father dying his moving, all of his break-ups and what not. Mid is the only piece of consitency he has had in the last 8 years. He will be more than devastate when he finds out. That is why I pray we find her before he is told by someone.

I hope you find her! Does she have a chip? If so, just call all the local vets and tell them she's missing, so if a black shepard comes in, they'll scan for the chip an bring your baby home!

No chip, she was bought from a breeded like 6 years ago so I dont think they put one in her. But I cant say for sure either. I'm going to go to the vet my bil used to take her too, I'll put up a flier there and let them know she is missing. Maybe she has an old rabies tag on I dont know but on the off chance she does maybe someone will bring her there. I dont know, the weather is crappy and with 4th of july coming im gonna be out of my mind bc she hates loud noises. she is gonna be terrified.

What do I do if I lost my pet
The first thing to do is call the shelter in the borough where you live or where your pet was lost. A AC&C staff person will access our Chameleon computer database to determine if any animals fitting the description have entered the shelter. If your animal does not turn up immediately, file a 'lost animal' report.
The next thing to do is visit the shelter to check for your animal. This is imperative because an animal's description is subjective, and one person's description of an animal may not necessarily match yours. We recommend that you check with the shelter in person every 48 hours or preferably more often. Meanwhile, the shelter staff will check the network and the 'found animal' reports as they come in.
Even though you are visiting the shelter, you should also:
Post flyers (see below) within a 1-mile radius of where the pet was last seen and around your neighborhood in as many of the following locations as possible:
Pet shops
Veterinarian offices
Shelters and Humane Societies
Supermarkets
Police precincts
Newspapers
Bulletin boards
Distribute flyers to delivery people in your area.
If someone responds to your flyer, having possibly found your animal, check it out even if it seems too far away to possibly be your animal. Animals have been found miles from where they were originally lost.
Contact as many vets and shelters as possible.
Most important, even before your pet is lost, consider the benefit of microchips, and have one implanted immediately.
Even with a microchip, every companion animal should wear a collar with ID tags at all times.
Please remember to remove all flyers once your pet has been found.

Thanks! So far I have done most of those, my next step will be to bring fliers to all of the vets and hang them in there. I have a list one of the shelters gave me so it shouldnt be too hard.
