Family Members/Friends Who Make You Feel Like C R A P

We went to a bbq last night and at the end of the night when the host had a few too many drinks he told us to get PG in the next year so their daughter could be only one year older than our kid. We said that we need to do full-time day care and with that being about 1300 per month, we need to make a little more $$$ first.

He and his wife then told us about their over 35 neighbors who had to have IVF and how older women have a lot of problems conceiving. I am 34, they know that, and so of course they were telling ME to hurry up.

DH and I said calmly that we will start a family when it is right for us.

Then they went into how it's been financially not a struggle for them, and how if they wanted the wife could stay home.

I was like "GOODY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!" Why don't you just ask a sensitive question then tell us how you guys don't have that problem.

Every get this with moron family members or friends? I felt like they took pleasure in making us feel like crap.

its no one's business as to when you get pg. i'm sure you told him this, but some people don't get the message right away. and people are just stupid and don't know when to mind their own business

Looks like you shouldn't have bothered with THAT bbq! With friends like that.... Seriously, why do people offer unwanted opinions!? Shove it!

Itis horrible when people assume that you are running to have a family right after you get married.A couple may decide that you do not want children. A couple may not be able to have children. Or a couple may have decided to put it off for many reasons whether financial or otherwise. In any case, it is no one's business. I think most of us brides who are in our mid to late 30's know that as we get older we drop fewer eggs and thus is often more difficult to conceive. We don't need fertility experts in the forms of friends and family to fill us in. It is right when it is right!

Tell them when THEY are willing to pay for your children and the daycare, you'll be more than happy to start a family. Until then, keep your mouth shut!

Sometimes in a case like that it's easier to just agree to their viewpoint, even if you don't agree. You can't argue sucessfully with a drunk so just shut down the conversation by saying "you're right - we're already trying"

I think I might have said,

" Kids?! Who wants kids?, They're just noisy little poop machines!"

And then "accidently" spilled coffe on them ( with our without lowfat half & half!)

I actually had a friend ask me when I was having kids on Saturday too. I countered with, "When are you getting married?"

I like the idea of berating them about her not staying home with the kid!!
