Winter Brides - limo/hall location Q
We are looking at halls that are more than 30 minutes from our homes ..... most of the ones on our list are about 45 minutes away.
FMIL expressed a major concern that the weather will be too bad for HER to get to the hall, and that we'll have to get limos for both sets of parents, siblings, etc.
Is it completely selfish of me to be looking 45 minutes away from our homes? I like several places - I can't HELP that they're not around the corner from me!
Anyway, should we consider getting 4 wheel drive limos? Or am I stressing over something that shouldn't be an issue at all?

Easy does it girl..good to be prepared, but not to be stressing over this. I had a winter wedding..we had no issues whatsoever..it didn't snow and I didn't care if it did.

No, it's not completely selfish to look at halls 45 minutes away. I looked at some halls that were almost an hour away!
I wouldn't worry much about that right now. Most limo companies will take into account the time of year and weather conditions. You don't have to worry until it's to think of booking them.

Re: Winter Brides - limo/hall location Q
I don't think you are being selfish in the least bit! Just bc it is winter, of course there is a chance of bad weather! My FBIL got married in Feb 03 (right after the BIG President's Day snowstorm) out at Villa Lombardi's..No problems at all!
If you don't mind having a 4x4 limo, it does help in case! But it surely is not a necessity!

Don't stress about distance for other people; find a place that you and FH love. It's NOT selfish.

I think distnace IS a factor, but I dont think 45 minutes is at ALL a big deal, especially if it's near major roadways. You can always see if your limo companies will give you a deal on towncar service or something thogh

Re: Winter Brides - limo/hall location Q
We are getting married almost an hour away from where we live...I am not going to worry about the weather...chances are it won't snow and if it does the limos will be fine. My friend got married two years ago in Dec on the day of the HUGE snowstorm...not only did they make it there in a reg limo, but almost every one of her guests made it also.
I wouldn't worry...don't settle for someplace because of the distance it is away from your house....Pick a place you love.

Just remember it is YOUR wedding. Next time you get backed into a corner by FMIL (or anyone else for that matter, Aunts/cousins because it will happen) just remember to smile and simply say "Actually we haven't thought of that yet, but when it's time we can discuss it", or variations of that but to the same point. That worked a great deal for me. People let it go after that. LOL

Re: Winter Brides - limo/hall location Q
the reason i did not pick my # choice of hall was because it was "too far for a friday night in february. well it was over an hours drive. soooo they won! i lost that battle. in the end the hall i choose was much more convienent in every way.

Re: Winter Brides - limo/hall location Q
Your stressing over something completely normal to stress about - if you like the halls you go with the halls!!
My biggest concern is weather - when looking at halls i literally drew a map around the church/our homes and did not look at anything outside that circle. I also questioned all the halls about how well they plowed the streets and picked halls off main roads - my hall is a block away from where the sandtrucks depart and on the other side is the hospital so its perfect. My mom and i also drove around in the snow this year to check it out and the parking lot was clear and everything.
I also asked about canceling due to weather - what the policies were.
I got limos with four wheel drive and they guaranteed that they will pick us up regardless of weather but i live near the church and told my priest even if its a blizzard i will walk to the church and i will be married regardless of if the reception is postponed.
I also got a limo for the parents and grandparents (they will all be sharing one limo)- i want to make sure they are taken care of as well - but thats preference.
sorry i'm a long winded kind of girl

Thank you Jamey, you just made me think about several questions that should be added to my "hall search checklist"!

Re: Winter Brides - limo/hall location Q
I wouldn't worry Nicole. 45 minutes is not that long. We are about 40 min. away from Fox Hollow (with traffic). As for the weather, definitely ask about the hall's policy. I paid my deposit to Fox Hollow this year during the blizzard. When I got there, it was lightly snowing and when we left, it was coming down hard! Jericho Tpke. was being plowed and salted and the FH parking lot was being shoveled. There were 2 weddings going on that day and everyone made it! I asked FH what would happen in inclement weather and you can either proceed with the reception or reschedule for the next available date.
Good luck sweetie... this is YOUR day. You do what you feel is best!
