We are going to be in San Fran for two days and I would like to do a tour of the Napa Valley area. Has anyone done this before and have any recs?

Thanks!

I've been to the Francis Coppola vineyard (evry close to Robert Mondavi) and it was very cool. they have all kinds of behind the scene stuff from when he shot the Godfather series and the vineyard itself is very nice!

Re: San Fran - Napa Valley?

I think a rookie move is to go to too many wineries in one day. IMO the tours try to do too much. People get too drunk to enjoy what their tasting and seeing. Two tops should be good - enjoy the grounds and the wine.

If you get a chance, have dinner at Brix on the patio just before sunset. The food, the experience - nothing short of amazing and unforgettable.

Napa Valley is beautiful.

The wineries recommended are great ones to go to. You are going to have such a good time.

St. Suppery is really nice also. Smaller place, when I went there was a sweet older man giving the tour of the winery.

St. Supery

We had dinner at Huley's Restaurant and the food was excellent.

Re: San Fran - Napa Valley?

Thank you all for the suggestions. Would you suggest that we rent a car and drive ourselves, or take one of the tours from San Fran? I would rather not drive but I don't want to be "stuck" either. Any ideas?

Re: San Fran - Napa Valley?

When FH and I went to Napa, we had lunch at Vi Situi (totally spelling it wrong...) - they had picnic benches on their grounds and you could buy food and wine in their store on the premise and eat lunch out on the grounds. That was my fav part of our trip - we bought cheese, a baguette and a bottle of their wine and ate it on their grounds....it was wonderful!!

That was my favorite vineyard. They have great shops in the town.

We rented a convertible and drove there.
I highly suggest Sterling. It has a Air Tram you take to the top with amazing views.

For restaurants, we ate at John Ash & Co (in Sonoma) and the Martini House (in Napa). I loved both of them!

Rent a car. You have more flexibility. The area is so beautiful - you could pass by something and just stop by whatever, whereever, whenever.

If you have time, visit John Muir woods too. Nothing like it!
