i've been calling them mom and dad for a little over a year. its comfortable for me so i'll stick with it. chris on the other hand, doesn't call my parents anything. but he can be shy about stuff like that, i don't see it as a big deal

My FMIL tells me to call her mom all the time and if I email her I can address the email to "Mom," but in person, it still feels a little weird. When did you guys start feeling comfortable??

Jeez...they still address themselves to me as Mr. and Mrs. (it's always been weird, so I just don't call them anything!). I'm pretty sure that it will be mom and dad after the wedding, but it's going to take years to get used to!

Right now I either call them Mr. and Mrs or I'll call FMIL by her first name..My parents told me I have to call FIL's Mom and Dad, b/c its disrespectful! (old school italian ways i guess) But I'll be the only DIL who calls them mom and dad and I know everyone else in FI's family will think im a kissa$$! But i guess I'll have to see what they want to be called..

I don't even call FMIL by her first name, and I've been with FH TEN years! She is an old fashioned woman from Nicaragua, so it is proper to call her Dona (accent on the N, so it's pronounced Donya) and her first name.
FSIL has been married to FBIL for 10 years, and STILL addresses her like that, so I don't think it will ever change.
FH will call my parents by their first names....I don't think he'd ever call them M & D- but I personally don't care for that too much anyway.

i have 1 mom and 1 dad- and i dont feel comfortable calling in laws mom and dad

Thats what my mom said! It's disrespectful to call them Mr or Mrs or by their first name (def must be an italian thing!!) I feel soo weird calling them Mom and Dad it doesnt feel right

I dont think I will ever be able to call FFIL 'dad' for reasons I have outlined in previous posts  I think I plan to avoid that subject all together with him.
I don't think it will be too hard to call FMIL 'mom' though cause she is awesome. Plus I know it will make her day. I'm not planning to start until after the wedding though!

I don't really know them that well. We really only get to talk on the phone and email since they don't live in the country. While I like them and think that they are great people - I don't think that I'll be able to call them mom and dad. Maybe that will change over time...

FI's mom passed away and he has no relationship with his father or his step-father. So I don't really have anyone to call mom and dad.
However, I call his aunt and uncle by their names (as opposed to Mr and Mrs) like he does. They make me feel comfy so it was pretty easy.  He told me that his mom would've liked me to call her mom, so I prob would've if I'd ever gotten the chance to meet her.
He started calling my mom Mom almost right away and he calls my grandparents and aunts and uncles the same way I do. He was immediately a part of the family, and his aunt pretty much told me the same thing. He hasn't met my dad yet so I don't know how that's gonna go, prob just 1st name tho since we're not close.
