If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

PLEASE do it at mroe than one hotel with a range of price ranges. For one wedding, they only blocked at cheaper hotels, and I go the last room at a caourtyard by marriot, And for a wedding in MD, they only blocked the Hyatt. It's well over $100/night and it's a long drive so we have to stay 2 nights.

Maybe block at 2 hotels close to one another, and if you have a shuttle it can go to 2 places.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

not so easy to do on Long Island I called every hotel that was in good shape and new - I wouldn't DARE have my guests stay in some of these roach motels we have - and the cheapest was $119/night. All the others were $149/night and they didn't have shuttle service or a pool and bar!

Very true...I have tried to get a hotel under $100 for my guests...It is impossible to do unless I want them in a motel...The cheapest I got was $139/night

WOW!

I've never stayed at a LI hotel, so I had no idea.

Just don't block all the rooms at the Garden City Hotel LOL

How do tey expect us to afford Hyatt? This is the 2nd wedding where the hyatt is the only choice. Actually we went to another wedding where it was Hyatt or I think Marriott. Hello people. I am not made of $$

Same here - $139 was the best price I could find. And because of the location of my hall, no one provides shuttle service for us.

I asked my sister for a reality check (because she travels way more than I do) - - and she said $139 was a fair price to expect to spend. She just went to a wedding in Chicago and the best price they got was $230 !

I thought I was going to be able to block rooms at two hotels as well....but when the Holiday Inn and Marriott in Uniondale gave me an identical $139/night....I had no choice but to pick one.

I blocked one hotel with 45 rooms out in Catchogue and they are all booked! I can't believe my guests are staying over at $215 a night. We did get a bus to drive people back and forth to the vineyard and the church. So everyone is excited not to have to drive.

I booked rooms at the Radisson (LIE exit 63) and they were $119. I didn't think that was too bad.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

I was quoted $129 a night at the Hilton Garden Inn in Ronkonkoma. My mother complained that the price was too high (she lives in Florida). I tried to explain to her that the rate was pretty good for LI. She still insist that I list other hotels in the area, which I did. The cheapest I could find was the Econo Lodge in Ronkonkoma at around $90 a night. It is not the fanciest place (FH and I have stayed there), but is okay for those on a budget.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

We blocked rooms for $159 and I thought that was a pretty good deal considering we are getting married in August. I think most people expect to pay at least $150-$200 a night in the summer. Every hotel I have ever stayed at in the summer has been like $250 a night, so I thought $159 was great.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

Well, we want everyone to stay at the same place, so we're only blocking rooms at one hotel. We plan on hanging out at the bar afterwards and having a brunch the next day. Our rate is $119 at the Huntington Hilton, which I don't think is bad at all.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

Just b/c the couple ONLY blocked one hotel doesn't mean you're obligated to stay there. If it is out of your price range, why don't you just find a cheaper hotel nearby?

We're only blocking one hotel (the one where our wedding is at), but if people want to stay else where they are welcome to.

One of my BMs is having her wedding in Cape May and didn't book any hotels..so we found our own.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

I got the Marriott in Islandia for $109 Considering everyone else wanted $149(Sheridan) and the Bridal Suite upwards of $250 per night I thought $109 was fair.

I paid $215 per night in FL 2 years ago.

Ohh, and Marriott gives a free upgrade to a bridal suite if you book 10 or moor rooms. So you only pay $109.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

I tried to block at the Red Roof Inn b/c they were pretty cheap. They wouldn't let me block rooms, but I got the going rate and put it on the wedding website for any guests that were interested.

I also have chosen not to stay at the hotel that was blocked when I went to a wedding. The place they blocked was so pricy in upstate NY that I would not have gone if I had to stay there. So I went on the AAA website and found a Best Western or something.

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

I feel you....I was going to block rooms at one hotel because I had stayed there in another city (Indianapolis) and paid, like $75. The SAME brand hotel was around $100 more...I couldn't very well do my block there, because a good # of those who went to the wedding in Indy are coming to mine! $100 more, just because it's LI? That's nuts to me!

I forgot to put, that hotels, like catering halls often have different rates depending on the time of year.

does it cost anything for us brides to block rooms?

and then you just put the hotel card in the invitation? I'm not sure how this really works

it costs you nothing to block rooms. We put the hotel info (that the hotel made up for us) with the STD's and we're also putting them in with the invites.

On a side note... you can negotiate the hotel room prices!! I did!

Re: If you're blocking rooms for OOT guests

what i decided to do was block rooms at the wingate and then offer the red roof info. in reality, the red roof is only about 10-20 bucks cheaper and won't include a shuttle and breakfast.

but i wrote the info on the STD so I gave them two options.
