FIL Vent kinda long

So, as I've mentioned before, FILs are not paying for anything with regard to the wedding. My mother is fed up and voices her opinion to anyone who will hear. Today was FHs birthday (I love you baby!!!!) FILs take him and I out to dinner. First thing they say after waiter reads off the specials is "Oh....no appitizers its too expensive." Then over dinner FFIL mentions that there are about six people that MUST be invited to the wedding. He's not sure if they'll come but they HAVE to get an invititation. While my mom and I don't see eye to eye in most regards I have to say that she's been darn accomodating considering how many people ILs are inviting...now less than three months to the wedding they want to start ADDING people????? I guess FH didn't want to start a scene in the resturant on his birthday because he kinda "yes-ed" his dad to death but meanwhile I was stewing. They wont let me order a freakin $5 salad but it's alright if I invite SIX more people to the wedding that mom is paying for?????

If it makes you feel any better I went out with FFIL and his wife to dinner after driving 3 hours to their house in Pennsylvania with 4 screaming kids in the car and they actually split the bill with a calculator I kicked FH under the table and FH picked up the tab to get his dad to put the calculator away They also deceided not to exchange Xmas gifts last year and sent the kids $25bonds instead.

wow.....sorry to both of you.....luckily capulet found a way to laugh it off...which is good.

has FH ever mentioned your frustration too his parents??

oh lord Inlaws are such a pain in tha a$$ I think we all have some sort of horror story that has to do with them I know I have quite a few

My mother and I paid for my wedding. I told DH that his side had half the seats. If they end up having more than that number, they have to pay. I think that is very reasonable. They wound up not going over the number.

Yes, mom has been very reasonable with allowing all the people FH's side wanted to invited but as the weeks go on and the more expenses pile up and with FILs attitude that my parents are paying for everything so what's a few more people that might not come anyway, it's beginning to cause a huge explosion. FH and I have really been trying to keep our tounges and if there's a fight let the ILs do it amongst themselves. I can't wait for this wedding planning to be over so we can get married and go on our honeymoon and RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh boy ... i know how u feel. my IL's are not contributing anything and they gave an ultimatum after we said no kids of 'if my 5 yr old granddaughter can't come, we're not either'. ok, then stay home!

I would def explain to them how having all these people really adds up. I mean 6x whatever you're paying per plate is a whole lotta money that could be better spent. And esp if they're not even chipping in! I understand you're trying to keep the peace, and kudos to your mom for being cool, but my goodness I wouldn't take that $hit!!! Wow that *****! I would have Fi tell them NO! It is not fair to expect your mom to pick up the tab for anymore people. If they are dead set on inviting them they will have to contribute $XXX. This will help them change their mindS!

I can't believe he said no appetizers??? That has to be the cheapest thing I have ever heard! Even if you can't afford it you lets your "guests" order one and you don't!
