How long did you wait until you started contacting people that did not respond by the RSVP date?
I dread doing this! Is it wrong that I prefer emailing nowadays to calling people?

Depended on who they were. My coworkers and my boss were late in responding. Since I saw them everyday, I asked a couple days later.
To be honest, once we were within 3 days of the RSVP date, we started calling friends and family to remind them to mail in the card. Most thanked us because they had forgotten. They still had enough time to get them in on the deadline.
Some of our flakey friends, we called after 5 days.
We still haven't called 16 people who didn't respond.  We just considered them as declines once the deadline passed.

Uggh, I guess that means I should start calling people? My date was May 15. I will wait until Monday to call.

Waiting til Monday should be fine. And I agree, nowadays I prefer email much more than the phone!!!

LOL.... I ALWAYS email people if I have the option...it's much quicker and you don't have to get into a conversation.

When I met w/my wedding "coordinator" they told me that once you hit the RSVP date, wait 7 days and start calling - YOU DO NOT CALL. You have your Maid of Honor/Best Man/or parents call.

I was had someone call me 3 days BEFORE her rsvp date when my reply was later received that same day I found out.
Sorry, but if you needed to know my 3 days before the RSVP date thats your fault not mine

Sorry, but if you needed to know my 3 days before the RSVP date thats your fault not mine
I don't think the issue is that she needed to know 3 days earlier, but that she might have had A LOT of RSVPs that didn't come in yet.
My mom called me 4 days before the RSVP deadline to tell me that we were still missing 50 RSVPs (for a total of 100 people). So, we were both in a major panic!
I was sick to my stomach with worry, so we all started calling people just to remind them to send in the cards. Most were very thankful because they had forgotten. Some forgot that they still had to send it in- they thought they already did, but low and behold, the card was still in their invitation
Some people we didn't call at all because we all knew they were flakes and they never did send the card in.
Now, had we only been missing 7 or 8 RSVPs, we wouldn't have called early. But we still had 100 people who hadn't sent the cards in. There's no way we could have waited any longer to start making 50 phone calls.
eta: I don't think anyone sets an RSVP date with the expectation that people will not have their replies in UNTIL that deadline. We all expect to receive the responses no later than the deadline. So, when it gets close, panic sets in.

I waited about a week, then I told my dad, mom and MIL whose was missing from their side and to get on it asap. We only called our friends.
