Re: San Fran and Honolulu Hotel Suggestions
San Francisco The Clift Hotel is amazing.
A great line of boutique hotels is: http://www.jdvhospitality.com/test/index.php Go to their website and you take a hotel "matchmaker" test and they match you to the boutique hotel that fits you best. I've met the president and when they designed the hotels they modeled it after magazines - like one is like rolling stone mag and would cater to that reader, down to the sheets that they use. Very cool, great service! Great prices!
Honolulu Sheraton Princess is right across the street so its a little cheaper than its sister properties that are right on the sand. Excellent location. Good hotel but not ultra luxurious.

The Monticello in SF is a nice place with reasonable prices and close to Union Square. I would recommend it.

Re: San Fran and Honolulu Hotel Suggestions
I've never been to San Fran, but when my parents go they at the Ritz, which they love.
I stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village a few years ago when I was in Hawaii. It had great atmosphere. The nice thing about it is that they have a number of different towers, and depending on what your price range is, you can stay upscale or more economical if you want.

Re: San Fran and Honolulu Hotel Suggestions
In San Fran, Fairmont is nice; we love the Hotel Monaco. Great boutique hotel and the reasonable price includes breakfast and a wine/hors d'oeuvre cocktail hour each evening.
