Question for Breastfeeding Moms
I'm not sure if I am eating the right food for breastfeeding. When I go out and formula feed Aidan he seems so content and does not cry before his next feeding in 3 hrs, sometimes even longer. I'm not sure I am satisfying him, he wants to eat sometimes every 2, 2.5 hours.
I'm curious what do you eat during the day?
TIA

Re: Question for Breastfeeding Moms
breastfed babies are hungrier more often. Breast milk is easier and more quickly digested than formula. That is why he's eating more often.

Re: Question for Breastfeeding Moms
That is a great question! I dont think I am eating the right foods either. I would love to hear what other moms are doing.. Also can you drink coffee when breast feeding or does that upset the baby?

This is true! Also if he is falling asleep during a feeding he may not be getting enough and needs to eat again sooner.
As far as what I ate, I stuck to my regular diet while BF and tried to eat more protein. I found that certain foods did affect my son, like if I ate brocoli he got very gassy so I had to stop eating it.
Edited to add: it also could depend on the age of your son. I found that around the times they say they are going through a "spurt" he was hungrier and slept more.

Re: Question for Breastfeeding Moms
I stayed with basically my pregnancy diet and just avoided spicy foods-like garlic, tacos, sauce for pastas. I also realized that orange juice was bothering my daughter so I stopped drinking it.
As far as coffee goes, I would try to stay away from caffiene, but decaf is fine.
But I agree that you might be noticing a difference because formula is more filling then Breastmilk is.

Re: Question for Breastfeeding Moms
Breastmilk is completely digested. Formula is not. Therefore when the bm is digested the baby gets hungier, faster.
