For the ceremony our church (for a fee) has singers and a pianist who are actually very good.

We're having our DJ pipe in steel drum music for the cocktail hour.

ceremony - i contacted a local university music department to see if there are any students that have experience and would like to make some extra $ - will probably go with that.

cocktail hour - our DJ provides that info and will just play light "jazz" type music...

Re: ceremony & cocktail hour music - what are you doing?

I am using Soul Revival Entertainment for ceremony, cocktail and reception. For our cocktail hour, we are having a jazz trio, since FH is a musician himself and loves jazz (I hate it but I figure I'll give him this one thing ) I can't remember if you asked for pricing, but I will give it to you anyway...it's $150 per musician for cocktail hour. And for our reception, we are having a 9 piece, at $6300. I think they are reasonable, considering some that we looked at we upwards of $10,000 for the same # of pieces. Their website is www.soulrevivalband.com
Good Luck!!!!

Re: ceremony & cocktail hour music - what are you doing?

Did you find anyone who wanted to play at your wedding from your local university. I am thinking of going that route. Let me know. Also, what were the prices.
Thanks

Re: ceremony & cocktail hour music - what are you doing?

I am doing a harpist for the church with the church pianist. Also, a friend of mine is going to sing a solo.

For the cocktail hour we are having a piano player (included in the price of our band).

Edited to add: the harpist was $150. She is a friend of a friend, so I am not sure if she is giving me a break at all... but she was shocked to hear some of the other prices I was quoted!

I'll have a string trio (Counterpoint) for my ceremony.
Our DJ (Elegancia Entertainment) will provide us with music for the cocktail hour.

Re: ceremony & cocktail hour music - what are you doing?

We are using whatever the church provides for the ceremony and a jazz trio for the cocktail hour. The price was included with our band pricing, so I am not sure how it breaks down.
