Went to an Infant Care Class....what a joke.

Other than giving informative info on hospital procedures it wasn't worth the time. The nurse was really nice but all we really did was watch a movie produced by Johnson & Johnson that spend 85% of the movie talking about care for your baby's skin (I wonder why!).

I wish the class was more hands on, even if it is just working with dolls.

That's too bad...did they mention that they would have you watching a movie? Because I would have assumed that the class would have been a more hands on kind of a thing...

That's what I was saying yesterday. We all "played" dolls when we were kids but dealing with infants is a whole bigger issue. There really needs to be an in-depth class about diaper rash, colic, cradle cap, cleaning near the umbilical cord, etc. for those who have had ZERO hands on with a real live baby! I was freaking when she came home, like "What do I do now??" although I figured it out pretty quickly

I took a 6 week class given by Mercy Hospital, i thought it was excellent.

We went to an Infant Care Class when I was PG. My DH never took care of a baby ever so I thought it would be good for him.

My class was different though. We actually had baby dolls and he got to put diapers on them, learned how to swaddle them, burp them, bathe them and everything else they could throw at us. I found it a lot of fun. We live in NC though. Sorry yours wasn't what you expected. It was funny because we were late to the class and we ended up with an african american doll, and my DH turned to me and said... "Honey... who have you been sleeping with?" I thought it was cute!

My class was awesome. Dh was unable to make it due to work but ours was four sessions.

The first was: Family and Pregnancy and went over PPD, Weight Issues, Eating, Getting out of the house
The second was: Swaddling, Bathing, Burping, Belly Button and Circ Care.
The third was:Breastfeeding and pumping
The fourth was: Just a general overview, carseats, shaken baby.. etc

All of our classes were run by RN's and was awesome but I think alot of it had to do with them being run by the USAF and they know that alot of us FTM's won't have husband's around or family around.

Mine was at Huntington Hospital where I will be delivering. I had no idea that half the class would be watching a movie. The teacher bought in a baby doll with her but didn't do anything with it.

It was about a lot of stuff....of course talk about how breast is best, then baby baths and skin care and all that, a lot about the actual births, they explain the progression of birth, and explain all the different terms you might here. there is a whole class on c-sections, so you're prepared for everything. The classes end with some relaxation and breathing techniques. The "teacher" I had was very anti-epidural. I really took her for what she said, and I truly believed there was no way I was going to have one. Almost to the point hat I felt guilty when I needed one - so take that part with a grain of salt. All in all, I thought it was a very helpful class, and so did my DH.

we went to all the other classses at huntington and left after the start of the infant care class...my husband and I enjoyed the other classes...
