Question About Car Leases

If you have a leased car and get into a car accident, do all the replacement parts have to be from your car company if you want to turn your car in at the end of the lease?

For example, if you have a Nissan, do all the replacement parts have to be Nissan parts?

What happens if they aren't?

Re: Question About Car Leases

your lease co and/or insurance need to approve of where and who is doing your repairs.

this is what could happen (i work for chase auto)

cust gets get check out. insuranse says you have 1000 worth of repair. insurance co sends check to finance co (cause they own the car) and the endorse it to both the repair shop and the customer. generally, the $$ of repair needs to be within a good amont close to what the insurance is.

so pretty much what is happening, the finance co. wants to make sure everything gets repaired. depending on the type of accident and if its repaired or not, they will get you when the term of your lease is up and you pay more to fix it later from the bank.

as long as its repaired...it doesnt matter. insurance will authorize you to go to a certain place to repair it

i hope this helps

Re: Question About Car Leases

So you can have, for example, non-Nissan parts, but when you terminate the lease, you might have to replace those non-Nissan parts?

And when you get an estimate, is that an estimate for the "right" car parts?

ETA: Oh, wait, I see! As long as it's repaired, they don't care, right?

i dont think when the car terminates..they go crazy looking at that. estimate is for the right parts. xyz auto repair shop may get them cheapier in turn you getting back a few bucks. are you talking about a major part?
It depends on your ins co... they may send the check only to a certain place to get the repair and you wont see any money because it goes straight to them.

another example...if there was a dent in a car from a storm... insurance co estimate allowed them to get a new door. however customer turns around and just pulls the dent out. see what im saying?

Re: Question About Car Leases

well...this is just from one company point of view...i have a general understand on how it works since i deal with auto financeing and leasing...

ins co. should have a list of people you should bring the car too, ask them how the payment works to them. i bet they will send it to finaince co and then foward it to either you... OR you have to send the check in yourself with where your doing the repair. I forgot to mention this part. Ins co may of said for you to go here but you can go somplace else. it all depends on who they write the check to.

good luck...FM if you have any other questions
