NWR - Real Estate Lawyer (repost from BHB)

Hi, girls! My fiance and I need to hire a real estate lawyer because we are selling his place, but we're not sure whether the quotes we have been getting are reasonable or not. We got a quote for $825 from a lawyer who doesn't get involved until after the contract is signed, and then she'll take care of the rest, including the closing. Is this reasonable? Does it make sense for a lawyer not to get involved until after the contract is signed?

Thank you!

You need a lawyer before you go to contract!!! You should have someone on your side right after you make a bid and who will look over the engineer's report with you and help you work any items that come up into the contract, among many other things!!! Our lawyer is $850, from bid-keys in hand, no matter what happens in between.

$850 is reasonable. I paid $1277 and about $900 (first closing and years later a refinance).

Re: NWR - Real Estate Lawyer (repost from BHB)

we are in the process of buying a home and selling a condo (we are in CT but i cant see it being much more in NY since we are in fairfield county) and the lawyer IS INVOLVED and has been, has looked over contracts, made sure our butts were covered...and is charging $700.00 hope it works out for you!

I work for a real estate lawyer. You definitely need the lawyer to review the contract. He charges more then $825.00.

ETA: I re-read noticed you are selling not buying.

Re: NWR - Real Estate Lawyer (repost from BHB)

I used a wonderful lawyer who is at a firm in Garden City. He was over 1K but worth every dollar. Returns phone calls within an hour and always was so on top of things. He was great to work with. I have heard horror stories from friends who used lower priced people and got crap service and lots of headaches. It is worth the extra couple hundred to get a top lawyer.

FM if you want his name.
