Got some bad news today
So my school has had me on pins and needles for 6 weeks now, not sure if they want to give me a letter of intent for next year, rehiring me. Today I sat down with my boss, and she informed me that they do not want to rehire me for next year. The reason- something so ambiguous I don't know how they can judge me on it- they don't know how "flexible' I am. Meaning, they don't know if they can put me in a new classroom next year with a new curriculum or new co-teacher. I offered to teach a model lesson in another class, offered to give her a list of times when I am doing a model lesson, but she did not do any of it. She was not come into to observe me for longer than 2 minutes at a time. I KNOW that I am a good teacher, and I know that I could not have worked harder, or better. The school is not a good match for me, I need a more structured environment where you don't have to invent a new curriculum every 2 weeks, where I am not giving a student insulin shots which I am not medically trained to do. I need to find a new job, I am getting my certification and masters degree in June finally. I'm just so angry and rejected and I don't know what to do.

I'm sorry to hear the news. I beleive that everything happens for a reason and something better for you will come along. It's happened to be last year. I was getting excessed into a not so great area and then I got a better job at the end summer.

As much as it is painful, it sounds like you will be better off somewhere else. There are many good schools that need good teachers. Six months from now when you are in a school that you enjoy you will wonder why you felt so bad.
I can't believe they make you give a student shots! IMO, that's not very responsible of the higher-ups, and the fact that someone can spend two minutes in your room and make a decision about you tells me that she is lazy and/or incompetent.

Laurie, I am so sorry!!! They are absolutely insane for not rehiring you!! I know that you are a wonderful teacher and so dedicated to the children. You WILL find a position that is a better match for you. I have complete faith in you!!

Laurie,
Don't feel bad....I was FIRED from my first teaching job. The school that I was in was SUPER STRICT...They never wanted any noise in the classroom and I am too much of a silly teacher not to have laughter in class.
However, for the past 9 years, I have worked at 2 schools that have been good matches.
Just get your resume out there and I am sure that something great will be there for you!

THanks for all the words of support ladies. I'm going to keeping sending my resume out and hope for the best. If anyone knows of any oppenings in a NYC school (private or public) in kindergarten-2 grade, please let me know. I am certified with 2 years teaching experence and I will have my masters in early childhood education in June.

Awwww, I'm so sorry to hear about this....but like all of the other girls are stating, I'm sure it happened for a reason. There are definitely better jobs out there and you will find one. Don't give up on yourself. I'm sure you are a great teacher!! Good luck to you!

My best friend went through the same thing...it really *****....sorry thatyou are going through this
