A Little Vent... I need a band!
hi girls,
i went to see a band last night (i will not mention the name) that i was thinking about booking. The lead singer told us to meet him at a catering hall where he would be performing at 7:30 so we could see him live and get some more info. When we got there the catering hall would not let us go in and kept us waiting in the lobby till nine, when we decided to go home. It was such a waste of a night, i wish people were a little more thoughtful when arranging meetings. Needless to say i crossed that band out. I did get to hear a little bit of them from the lobby, and although they sounded great they did a lot of talking in italian and yelling to liven up the crowd. Although i think this is a great way to get the crowd to have fun, i still dont really like the way it sounds... i want to have a fun party and i want to have italian songs, but i also want it it to be classy. Does anyone know what i mean? I don't want it to sound like a sweet 16. So, i want to have some violin/harp/piano music for the cocktail and i want lively contemporary music for the actual dinner party and i also need to incorporate some authentic sounding italian and greek songs. I know this is probably too much, but does anyone have any suggestions on how i can do this or what bands i can go see? thanks so much in advance, any info is greatly appreciated...

Re: A Little Vent... I need a band!
sorry you had to go through this...
i've had my fair share of inconsiderate vendors (whom i haven't booked with) and it's unbelievable to me the way we are treated considering we're shelling out thousands of $ to these people...
almost makes me wish i had a destination wedding...

Try Times Square Orchestra. They are a lot of fun, without being "too much". I think they also do ethnic sounds.

I don't know about an Italian band, but what an i d i o t that vendor is! I'd be so po'd if my band had people come to see them while they were performing at my wedding. That's why they have showcases.

Re: A Little Vent... I need a band!
I'm using one of Franklin Wayne's bands. I think they are great.- "Heart and Soul"
They are a 9 piece band, of which 7 of them sing.
Check them out- he has a bunch of other bands that he manages too.

Re: A Little Vent... I need a band!
We used opera3000 and they were amazing. They played the italian old school stuff plus anything modern. I would call and see if they do greek music too -- I'm not sure.
The website is www.opera3000.com -- the band leader is Mimmo.
Hope this helps!

Sorry that you had to go through that. Sweetwaters is a great band. I saw them perform at a wedding and they were phenomenal. I'd book them if we were having a band....

Re: A Little Vent... I need a band!
Just an idea, but you could book an American Band that you like and then have them play some of your favorite Italian and Greek songs for a while on CD. I've seen this at a wedding I went to last year. It worked out great and everyone was happy. It was a big wedding too, maybe 350 people.
