Feeling hotheaded today and I quit! (sorf of)
Nutshell version: I got fed up with higher-ups who come in once a month (or less, really) telling me that they are not happy with my job performance. They give me very little support and I am new to this job.
So I went to my principal and told him that I am resigning the position effective June. I want to go back in the classroom. He told me not to be too hasty but honestly, I am so furious. My face is so red right now. There are definitely things I could do better but I also feel like I've been busting my tail. I don't know if I feel sad or relieved but I know I am mad.

First, some hugs for you.
You should definitely be getting more support and guidance from your supervisors. Have you let them know how you feel and asked them for more regular feedback? I know when you've talked about your job, it seems like you really like what you do, and I would hate to see you lose that. It's hard to find a job that you really like.

I'm a reading coach, so I work with the teachers, helping the implement all the things that the region wants to see. There are a lot of things that I am expected to MAKE the teachers do, but I have no authority if they choose to do otherwise. I work with all senior teachers and they are very resistant and cynical. And I feel like I try so hard and that's not acknowledged.
Ladies, thanks so much for your support. It really means so much to me. I haven't called DH at work because I think I'd start blubbering and I don't want to do that while I'm here.

Tracy, I'm sorry to hear. You did/said what you had to & that is respected. You are in a hard place b/c I can imagine the resistance, especially from teachers who have been there forever.
Perhaps you need a change?
Aren't you moving soon too?

Don't feel bad....this happens in every school. Each time there is a new buzz word, they expect the school to jump on board. it is hard to work with resistant teachers!

I used to work as a HS counselor and I found working with the teachers, administration and parents WAY tougher than with students. As with teaching, the first year is probably the toughest. Are you willing to give it a second year, to see if it gets easier? If you loved classroom teaching, maybe that is more your calling than this job. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. I understand your frustration - I have been there

ahhh, a coach. please tell me you help your teachers!!! my coach is quite useless and is of no help. but you guys need support too. city schools suck! i'm sorry. does your principal back you up for anything?

I hope he backs me up! He wants me in the position next year, but I feel like he does need to side with me as far as these women are concerned.
I try so hard to help the teachers. My building was restructured and all but the most senior teachers were excessed. They are ready to retire. So when I go in to model lessons, some of them will leave me alone with their kids! And the others don't really try to do what I show them. The more I think about it, the more I want to go back to the classroom.
