Wedding gifts(money)

Did anyone NOT have any money really after the wedding as far as from gifts?

I feel like Im the only one around here who pretty much has nothing left of "gift money".

We honestly dont care, but Im curious.

I'll be honest and say our Wedding cost us slightly over $30K and we got back maybe 1/3 of that. After paying off some bills right after, spending money on HM, paying Back MOM, Rent, and some new living room furniture, we dont have any left.

It gets a little depressing to hear so many people be able to "save". Although like I said, the wedding was never about the money and we were glad we got what we even did out of what we got.

Re: Wedding gifts(money)

Well, let's put it this way: A WHOLE lot of our money come out of hard earned savings (I've been saving money since I was 14 years old) and went toward paying for the wedding. We received very generous wedding gifts- way more than average. We put it all into savings...but, it is still A LOT less than we had before the wedding.

I just keep thinking over and over again that we should have bought a house instead of paying for that wedding. I don't think the wedding was worth the money we spent on it. But, I might be feeling that way because I had a bridesmaid who I really believe ruined my wedding.

So, I get this sick feeling whenever I think about the money that I saved since I was 14- working at a snackbar, getting burned from the water/oil combo that I was boiling hot dogs with- I still have a scar on my forearm from it. All spent on a night that one miserable human being decided was going to be her biggest b!tch fest out of all 34 years she's been on this planet...

Re: Wedding gifts(money)

I am one of the few that actually MADE money from the wedding... well, only because my grandmother, mom, Mom-dad-inlaws, and 3 uncles gave us very generous gifts. Without these 6 gifts we were WAY under. We put this money right into our ING account but have been slowing using it for our home improvements... almost done with the house and the money

Re: Wedding gifts(money)

We had very generous guests too and put all of it in ING where it is collecting interest for a house someday!

Re: Wedding gifts(money)

We didn't pay for our whole wedding (my parents and his parents gave us a contribution) but we probably paid around $40,000 (we had a big wedding) and we made probably $45,000 with money and gifts.

Every wedding is different. I made money and i have been hesitant to say much about it, because that is not why i had the wedding.....it really depends on the people you have, how many and your catering hall....

Re: Wedding gifts(money)

We got back less than half for what we paid for the wedding. We were engaged for 2 years, during those 2 years we made sure we had paid of 90% of our debt and we paid for the wedding ourselves, so we owed no one really. I think DH had about 3k left on his CC so we paid that off. Passed that we saved everything and put it towards our house. We didn't buy new furniture or do buy anything major so that is how we were able to save it! Believe me I would love to but my DH is very good at controling my purse strings

Re: Wedding gifts(money)

we did okay at the wedding and did received some generous gifts from family. we used alot of it for a downpayment on our house and then the rest to put into the house so the answer is sadly its all gone but we do have a lot to show for it

Re: Wedding gifts(money)

We also did fairly well at our wedding, but didn't make money back. We pretty much made back what we spent (not including what my parents and his parents paid for).

That said, we have only a little left that is sitting in a savings account right now. We used some for bills, and we used some for DH to go to Nashville and record his original rock CD and for a various few other things.
