They don't do it. That is one of the reasons I didn't want a Greek-orthodox ceremony. Always wanted to exchange vows with my Husband (I feel like I am marrying the priest or the Koumbaro). But the things we do for Love. I agreed to be married in a Greek church. I am trying to get a Catholic priest come in and perform that during our wedding (which I know the greek church will not allow).

My brother-in-law got married last weekend and after the greek ceremony two roman catholic priests came and said a blessing for the couple - maybe it depends on each particular priest and church?

That's good to know....I need to have some sort of Catholic component at my ceremony as well.

I think my response applies to VITA too...
I'm Irish-Catholic marrying a Greek in a Greek church. We spoke to a priest at each church and this is what we learned:

At FH's particular parish Catholic priests are welcome to the ceremony and can do 1 of 3 things... a final blessing, a reading or the traditional Catholic exchange of vows.

Greek Orthodoxy and Catholicism are very close, the sacraments are identical in nature and circumstance, but while a Catholic can marry in a Greek church with a dispensation, a Greek cannot marry in a Catholic church.

The Catholic priest is not a co-celebrant.

It really depends a great deal upon the GO priest however, if the Catholic priest is invited.

hope this helps!

Yes that does help...but what if you want to say your vows, but dont want or have a catholic priest. I dont neccessarily want a catholic component to the ceremony (my FI is NOT religious) We just want to say our vows to each other...is that crazy? Should I just come right out and ask the priest?

I think the easiest thing for you to do is just to ask your priest - that is the fastest and clearest way to get the answer for your particular church. Every GO church varies because each priest has a varying degree of strictness.

For example, and it isnt related to having a catholic component or reading vows. Some GO churches allow you to have instruments for the processional and recessional - while others done. Some only permit the use of the organ to play hear comes the bride, while others allow tapings of other songs.

Thank you!!! It is great to hear that I have a chance of having a Catholic priest be part of my wedding. We are getting married at St. Paul's in Hempstead and I will go and speak to the priest...

I was listening to all their clips and I started to notice that I like the videography too!! So I looked at it (its right on that website) and i called him. Just so happened that he's like 3 min away from me in brooklyn.

As for Fantasia Music, I'm not sure...Georgia, do you have their contact info?? Thanks!!

Re: Greek Brides Thread

Hi everyone,
I am new to the board. What a great thread! My Fiance is Greek Orthodox and I am converting from the Church of England. I was bought up as a Christian but never actually baptized.
I have to have about 10 lessons with the Greek Priest and will be baptised on my name day in November.
I think the Greek weddings are beautiful very symbolic and I am looking foward to getting married Next Year. We are thinking of marrying at the new Church in Brookville.
Because I am English we are looking for a band who will play traditional Greek and American, have any of you heard of any bands that will do this?

Re: Greek Brides Thread

Hi,
My friend told me about something special, she went to a wedding where they played and said they were excellent. Do you know if they have a website or contact number, I can't seem to find them.

Hi girls, I haven't posted here in a while, but I just wanted to let you know that I used Delta at my wedding in May and they were amazing - everyone I have spoken to after we returned from our honeymoon has commented on how great they were! Everyone was dancing the whole evening - all their song selections were perfect, I would definetly recommend them.

BTW - You can also email the contact, Nick Zolotas at DELTAMUSICNYC@aol.com, he's great at responding to emails.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

Hi everyone! How's everyones summer going so far? I need some help. I am trying to decide what to get my BM's. I am not interested in jewelry for them to wear to the wedding... that I know.... but I'm not against jewelry in general. Any other suggestions????? Thanks so much.

By the way I've been reading the posts about bands. I've heard great things about Powerstation. We're using the VIPS, one of the guys is a family friend of FH, and we're using a seperate clarinet player (my family likes the tsamika). We are also having FH's cousin DJ for us... there are come songs I'd rather hear from the CD rather than a Greek band singer.

I gave this a little thought since Im only at the early planning stages for my wedding... and I came up with coach wrislets and perhaps a gift certificate for a mani/pedicure. Hope it helps!!

PS The coach outlets also sell wrislets for 30 bucks (or more) if you have a large bridal party

Thanks that sounds good. We have 4 couples, plus our koumbari.. but they are getting different gifts than the rest of the bridal party. I like the wristlets... and the price.

Re: Greek Brides Thread

You can even do simple pieces of jewelry from Tiffany...silver of course, but really nice... may be a little more than wristlets, but not too much... and for guys, money clips from tiffany...

just a thought, i'm thinking of more... lol

Re: Greek Brides Thread

I bought my bridesmaids jewelry from www.carriedmader.com

They wore it on the day of the wedding and i know that the girls have worn them on several occassions since the wedding. She customizes the jewerly to anything you want I loved them!

For the guys - we got the groomsmen engraved silver money clips from fortunoff and we got our koumbaro a silver and gold engraved money clip with matching cuff links.
