Re: Greek Brides Thread
Hello! I'm a Greek bride also. I'm happy to see so many other Greek brides. We're getting married at Holy Trinity in Hicksville. We havent decided on what to get our koumbari yet. We have a koumbaro and a koumbara (not married) I was leaning towards jewelry for them, but we'll see. I live in Queens (Bayside) so if anyone needs help with stefana, lambathes..... let me knoe. I have all the resources outside my door. GOOD LUCK to everyone!

Re: Greek Brides Thread
Hi, I've heard good things about Helen Chaisson. I actually know her youngest son. I'm getting my hair done in Astoria. One of my closest friends has a hair salon and she will be doing my hair and most of my BM's hair. Her salon is called Hair Shapers on Broadway and 33street.

Re: Greek Brides Thread
My FH is Greek and I'm Italian/Catholic. We're getting married in his church, St. Catherine & George in Astoria. I'm also trying to learn the Greek traditions and figure out what to get my koumbaro and koumbara. They are my FSIL and FBIL and husband and wife, so my FH thought we'd get them something for the home. Is that ok or are we supposed to get them something personal for each one?

If they are a couple then getting them something for them home sounds like a great idea.

Hey agapi, we're almost neighbors....I'm in Whitestone. I am starting to think about jewelry as well. Since my brother will be our koumbaro FH suggested a watch or bracelet. So I'm debating it.

Re: Greek Brides Thread
Neighbors for now.... FH is shipping me out to Bayville after the wedding! I have no idea what we are getting the koumbaro yet. Probably a bracelet. As per the koumbara I'm leaning towards a white gold cross. Her sister told me she's wanted one. What are you getting for your BM's? Thats where I'm getting stuck. Any ideas anyone?????

Astoria has tons of stores you could visit. You can FM me for exact names and locations. There are also some in Bayside if you're closer to that area.

Hi Greek Brides! I'm Greek, FH is Italian. I bought my crowns while was in Greece last month. They were a little cheaper then the ones here, but they had more of a selection there. I'm going back again in August. Is there anything else I can purchase there? I'm going to be the koumbara for my friends wedding in June. There are lots of things for the koumbara to remember!!!!

Hey fellow Greek Brides! Try G and L Markella on Ditmars Blvd in Astoria for crowns, candles etc. I was there a couple of weeks ago to look at invites, (I'm Catholic, not GO) they have lots of stuff that may be of interest to some of you! Hope it helps!

Re: Greek Brides Thread
I was wondering the same thing---how are you Catholic girls (such as myself) getting your GO men to marry outside his church? I was told he wouldn't be recognized by the GO church as being married if it wasn't in a GO church. I was the one who had to get a dispensation from the Catholic church to marry outside my church....it just seemed easier that way. Thanks....

hmnnnn as far as we know we dont have any ok.
basically, we only went to my (catholic) church and spoke to the priest there. he told us that my fh would probably get excommunicated for getting married in the catholic church. he said that we could first get married in the greek church and then get a blessing by the catholic church. But to me this was not acceptable.... i can only imagine getting married in the catholic church, plus there are a few differences between the ceremonies that i would not be able to accept. I am so lucky that my FH does not mind and agreed to the catholic ceremony, b/c it means a lot to me. I wish we could do both but the greek church does not allow that. Do you know if you have to convert to get married in the greek church? well anyway there is no perfect solution so we have to make the best of it :(

Hi... I'm Italian, fiance is Greek. My screen name says it all! I have not yet set a date (I put August 19 2006 because I needed to put something up).
I'm trying to get my engagement party booked. Then I'll worry about the wedding! I'm looking forward to getting some great advice on this thread!

No, you don't have to convert to get married in a Greek church. We are having the Greek ceremony and I am GO and my FH is Catholic. If you are Jewish, then it may be a different story, but any Catholic can get married in a Greek church so long as they were baptised. He wouldn't expect you or FH to convert.

I am GO and my FH is Catholic. We are getting married in the Greek church. As long as you have proof of that you were both baptized it should not be a problem. Plus FH doesn't mind getting married in the GO church so that makes my life a lot easier!
