ING Account (semi-spinoff to money saving post)

DH and I were looking into a high interest rate savings account for our wedding gifts and it seems like ING is the best option. Neither of us has any experience with it though so we're a little wary, esp since it's not affiliated with a bank that we know either. But I see that a number of you have one so I have a few questions.

How do you like it? Did you compare it to other accounts like this? Is your money locked up for any period of time?

ETA: TIA

We have ING and love it. You can transfer your money out and back into your checking account with 3-4 days notice. Banking is totally free and so easy to do.

The savings account is affliated with a bank and is FDIC insured. It's the ING Bank.

Re: ING Account (semi-spinoff to money saving post)

DH and I opened our ING account about 2 months ago and love it. They interest rates keep going up (at 3% right now!) and we are earning more interest per month than we were in a quarter when our money was in the credit union. It is so easy to transfer money in and out of the account through your regular bank. We opted to do this instead of a CD or something like that b/c our money is liquid in ING (just need the few days time to get the money transferred to your regular bank). We did not have to sign up for a set amount of time. It is a regular savings account like any other bank.

Re: ING Account (semi-spinoff to money saving post)

I just opened one last month and love it. And like everyone else said the interest rate keeps going up. I like that it automatically takes the money from my checking account so I know I have some more money going into my savings that I cant touch as easily.

All of our wedding money is in an ING account. I really don't know much about it, but DH raves about it.

I've had my account for years, and have nothing but good things to say! We've put a lot of wedding related savings into that account because of the fantastic rates!

It's very easy...they are also very nice to deal with. I had some questions, and they answered all of them, and were very courteous- not like some places where all you get is attitude...lol

Re: ING Account (semi-spinoff to money saving post)

I've had an account for a couple years now and have no problems. My experience has been similar with all the prior posts.

They have a referral program so if someone with an account refers you, you can get $25 for opening an account and the referring person gets $10. So, feel free to FM me with your email if you want a referral.

Re: ING Account (semi-spinoff to money saving post)

I have www.emigrant-direct.com and they give you 3.25% on your savings account. It works the same way, but the rate is a little higher. There are also Emigrant branches in NYC, so it's a real bank. I used to have a account there a long time ago.

Yes you can!

We have been using ING for just over 2 years now and we have no complaints! This is where we "saved" our wedding and house downpayment money. We made so much more on interest that we would have at our regular bank!

Re: ING Account (semi-spinoff to money saving post)

I am thinking of transferring our "wedding fund" to this. Does anyone know if you have to setup the automatic withdrawal? I have issues with automatic withdrawals I fear something will bounce!

Re: ING Account (semi-spinoff to money saving post)

I posted on the Home board about this. There are many companies that offer more interest that a bank - they are money markets. Shop around the companies. I have one and love it (not at ING). ING is having some problems - they've been in the Wall Street Journal and other papers a lot these past weeks. It doesn't mean that the problems will trickle down to the consumers, but if other companies with better business plans and no issues offer the same interest, why risk it??

you have a choice, I don't do it automatically, I manually put it in for the amount I want
