Re: FMIL dress
I think it depends on what it looks like. Does she ever wear dresses?

Re: FMIL dress
Then I would either tell her the wedding is going to be formal and you'd prefer if she wore a gown (does she know it's formal? maybe she made a mistake), or go shopping with her. They make some very fancy suits, so you never know.

Re: FMIL dress
Thanks...I'll see if she wants me to go shopping with her. I don't really care that much but I think she is going to feel uncomfortable when she looks around and sees everyone more dressed up then her....her husband will be wearing a tux.

Re: FMIL dress
I dont ever wear dresses, thats why I asked. Being a bride is going to be wierd for me, but its the one time where I have to.
Anyway, I agree that you should talk to her. Maybe if you causally mention what the other women are wearing she will decide she doesnt want to be out of place and change her mind?
Good Luck.

Re: FMIL dress
My FMIL and mother and aunt and grandmother will be wearing pants for my Saturday night wedding. I am hoping for something like this:
But I guess we'll see.
They can look formal if they are the right kind.

Re: FMIL dress
If her husband is wearing a tux, then she must be aware it's formal. Have you seen the pant suit? It could be gorgeous? I would go over to her how and say, "I'm so excited to see what you got for the wedding, can I see?" and hopefully, it's formal enough. If not, try to make a subtle comment about how it will go with her husband in a tux. If she hasn't gotten it yet, then I would def. offer to be a "good future daughter in-law" and go shopping for the day with her.

Re: FMIL dress
It depends on the suit. I saw one pants dress that had a boustier top. OMG on a tall slim woman of a certain age it would look absolutely stunning. Just as dressy as a formal gown.
