Let's spice things up a little further: Can there realistically be a separation of church and state?
Opinions please

I don't think so, at least not in the purest sense. People are always influenced by their beliefs and lawmakers and judges are no exception. I think there is always a certain amount of personal bias in politics, and therefore religion seeps in somewhere.

Re: Let's spice things up a little further: Can there realistically be a separation of church and state?
I think it depend son what you mean. You cna try to separate chruch and state but our whole legal system and in fact western civilazation itself has its basis in the bible. Also politicians are humans and their religious beliefs will effect their choices. So are voters. Voters vote based on religious beliefs as well.
Sometimes I think trying to separate church and state more (batltles over the 10 commandments display, etc) kind of brings religion more into the picture than it needs to be.
