OMG I saw puggles!! I'm in love.
THey have them at a pet store on Francis Lewis (near Gyro Corner if anyone knows the area). They are only 850! They have 3. I got to hold one. They are sooooo adorable. Even dh fell in love. I think it looks like we'll be getting one as soon as we're allowed.
Doesn't someone here have one? If so, how are they... temperamental wise.

Puggles are cute! But remember they are still mutts, they aren't an 'official breed.' Dogs from pet stores can have questionable backgrounds, especially trendy dogs like puggles. I have a friend whoose pet store dog now needs surgery and medication to control a genetic problem. Her expensive pet store puppy will now cost her thousands in vet bills.
Bottom line is do your homework. Check shelters, rescue groups etc, and look for reputatble breeders not puppy mills.

Definitely. And we figured if the pet store is charging that price, usually you can find it from a breeder cheaper. And they know the background of the dog. I was just happy to see one in person. I've only seen pics.
also I've seen puggles on petfinder.org (or com) at shelters. I would love to adopt a shelter dog.

I just meant cheap compared to pugs and other dogs I've seen at pet stores. I was at a place charging 1500 for pugs. It's insane!

yeah but thats cuz its a pet shop they always have ridiculous prices b/c people that buy from pet shops dont know any better. plus its cheaper cuz its a mutt.

I have a 12 week old puggle and so does meganandbobby and gina674. They are the cutest things. I got mine at a pet store also. I did want to do the whole adopting thing too but i couldn't take a chance on getting a puppy that would be too big because i live in an apartment.
As for the temperment of the puggle... i have heard good things. Missy is a bit difficult at times with biting and nipping us. She just loves to bite us and doesnt listen. We are workig on that. She is a very intelligent dog though. in just a few days we have her sitting and giving us her paw. Its just a big adjustment... its hard for a while but everyone tells me that it definitely gets better. if you have any questions let me know.

if you really want a puggle i'll give you the info of the store qwe got her from and she can get one directly from the breeder, and it's a great breeder!!! and they were chepaer than $850...

TRUST ME on this! the only 'breeders' who sell to shops are backyard breeders/puppymills...
Tinks "breeder" turned out to be one as well.
And although they are healthy now, in the long run they may not be. These people constantly breed dogs for money. NOT to better the breed.
Papers dont mean chit either. The only people who need papers are people who show... and no pet shop puppy will ever be shown.
and pet shops pups are NOT well taken care of at all! especially on the way to the pet shop!

Seriously you need to stop slamming people who buy from pet stores. You are very insulting! I know now that dogs from pet stores are mostly likely from puppy mills but you need to stop making everyone feel bad. In the end a dog got a home. I love my "pet store" daisy, and I don't appreciate that you have a need to make eveyone feel bad for being SOOO STUPID to buy a dog from a pet store!
Sorry to hijack your thread, I just can't stand the soapbox attitude anymore!

SFP.. i hardly can see how saying that people who buy from pet stores dont know any better is insulting!!!... isnt it true?! im not saying "cuz people who buy from pet stores are stupid" if you bought from a pet shop chances are that you didnt know about puppymills at the time. So i honestly cant see how that is insulting at all!
and i never said they dont get a good home or are unloved!

god forbid someone says that thats bad you get all defensive. why not just REALIZE the facts and acknowledge them! no one is sayingt o return your dog or that you are a bad owner.... its saying, Now you know what goes on. Lets try to get people to acquire their dogs from otehr sources!
eta: why are you DEFENDING pet shops and telling other people to support them?!?!
i cant see how defending them is doing any good. now that you know the facts why not say "yeah i got my dog from a pet shop and i love to death, shes great, but i dont recomend buying from a shop. you should look into a breeder or rescue".....

I am not defending pet shops or telling anyone to support them. I will not get a dog from one agian... BUT there are other ways to go about helping pups than to be downright insulting to people who buy thier dogs from there. You constantly insult people about this. You almost had me in tears after I bought my dog until I realized people like you just aren't worth it.

When the pet store burnt down, instead of just feeling bad for the all the poor pets you went on your soapbox about how you were GLAD?? that the store burnt down becuase it put another puppy mill supplier about of bussiness.. That is just sick. Go preach somewhere else.

you should really grow up then. i am not trying to insult anyone on here. someone has an interest in a puggle so i simply tell her that she should look into OTHER options than a pet shop.
like i said, chances are when you buy a dog from a pet shop you dont know any better... thats not an insult. thats truth. PLUS NOW (probably b/c of me) you know better and you wont do that again. How did i have you almost in tears??!?! please! you need to learn how to register FACTS and NOT take them personally!!!!

i said that i felt EXTREMELY sorry for the animals. BUT i said that i hope they do not REBUILD it b/c it will just continue puppymills.

"on your soapbox this" "on your soapbox that" i am not on a soapbox at all. i just try to get info out there. i never said im better than anyone else and i dont act like i am.
i never once was mean to anyone on here about buying from a pet shop!!! (not like SOME people on here are!) i simply say for the future dont. theres no reason why i shouldnt tell people about puppymills. i feel very strongly about it and i dont try to preach. i just try to let people see.

and like i said I NEVER TRIED TO MAKE ANYONE FEEL BAD ABOUT IT AFTER THEY BOUGHT FROM A PET SHOP. i try to TEACH them alittle bit so that when they get tehir next dog they WONT get from one.
