i am soooo pissed OMG IM SO GONNA GET FIRED UPDATED! lol

so at my "new" job one of my boss's had put in her 2 weeks notice. Until they hire someone else I am taking over her responsibilities as well as all of my own, with no pay increase. I am doing double the work and making the same $$$, let alone the fact that I am barely comfy at my own f*cking job let alone hers!!!!!

so just now i get a list emailed to me of all my new responisibilites and what needs to b done..sriously the list is 3 pages long.. i can kill someone right now and i dont know how in the world i m going to hack this

ETA: SO JUST now im talking to my other boss and shes giving me allll this work..and she made a comment how im the "keeper of the key now" with all this work..and i gave her a Look and said yeah thats funny i never asked for the key..and then shes like oh a professional tip" u dont say that to any1" and im like well a professional tip, id like to master one job b4 i master someone elses.. and i walked away..omg im soo going to get fired but i have had enough of this bs!

That *****! It seems like maybe they are taking advantage of you - This is a boss' position that you have to do - there should be more money - or give you the promotion!

that really s u c ks, and how unfair to you, they should pay you at least double while they found someone or better yet you should be offered the position. I feel your pain.

Re: i am soooo pissed

One of my biggest peeves about the magazine industry!! They do it all the time...
That SAME exact thing happened to me at my first job. It totally stinks.
BUT-STAY STRONG!!
You get GREAT exposure, and you can now put all of those added responsibilites on your resume. I did, and when I went on interview for my next job (where I went for a higher position) I told them I filled in for my boss for X amount of weeks. It totally helped!
I promise it will help you in the long run!!

Michi:

Stuff like that happens all the time. Trust me when I say the best thing to do right now is just to grin and bear it.

You don't want to burn unnecessary bridges. People NEVER get paid extra to do other people's work that left the company. At least not immediately.

The best thing you can hope for is a satisfactory review and a decent raise after a year of working there.

Re: i am soooo pissed OMG IM SO GONNA GET FIRED UPDATED! lol

You actually have an opportunity to learn something new and prove what an asset to the company you are/will be. Instead of feeling slighted or pissed off they didn't offer you a HUGE raise, why not take the opportunity to soak up as much as you can.
I think you are new to the company, right? Well just like everyone else you have to prove your worth and this is the opportunity to really get in there and make this happen ...
That way when you do sit down for a review/raise you have ammunition. And if you don't get what you want at least you can walk away with that much more on your resume.

They need you more than you need them right now. Just keep it low key and do what you have to do, and ask for help. It should pay off in the long run and if it doesn't...Sayonara!

Well, I hope that doesn't happen, but if that is a chance you are willing to take it is good that you spoke up. People think that new people will do whatever to get ahead & then they take advantage of it.
It is bad enought to cover for an equal or subordinate, but seriously, if you could do your bosses job, why would you be this entry level position?

Do you want to ever make more than $33k a year? This is a good road to take to get more $$$ in the future.
Stop looking at the instant gratification aspect of it and look at what it can bring you down the road ... you have how many more years to retirement??? Soak up the knowledge/experience now and you'll be rewarded in the future ...

I understand what you are saying and maybe it is time for you to move on and find something new, but I think you should think about where you are (company reputation), what you are doing (your position now), what you are going to be doing (your former bosses duties) and what it is going to get you in the future (a better position within the company, padding your resume, more money, more leveraging power, etc). It may be worth it to suck it up for a few months (3 months, 6 months or longer) to gain that experience and reap those benefits or maybe not. It's for only you to decide what is best for you. Good luck.

Re: i am soooo pissed OMG IM SO GONNA GET FIRED UPDATED! lol

I would take it as a good opportunity. You don't seem so concerned about the job so maybe you want to get fired? If you do your bosses job and your own I would use it as leverage when I get my review and ask for more money.

But in todays enviornment it is normal for people to quit and someone else to take on their work with no extra pay.

That's definately unfair that they passed this position to you without discussing it with you first and without offering you some sort of pay increase or bonus for doing it. Maybe they're testing you. Maybe if you do well in this position, they'll make it a permanent position for you and they'll give you a raise. (just trying to lend a bit of optimism here) I hope everything works out

Re: i am soooo pissed OMG IM SO GONNA GET FIRED UPDATED! lol

This has happened to be more times now that I can count

The last time was "Hey we work hard and do stuff we're not even supposed to" (our complaint) Their reply: "You've been promoted!" You are now a Client rep..and as such you are responsible for.. blah blah blah (MORE WORK). ... NO PAY INCREASE!

I once got two jobs on top of mine. One lady had her knees replaced, the other had two strokes. No pay increase not even a title increase.. just work work work.

I learned from that and took it with me. I have a buttload of experience, yeah it paid off a few years later.. but did it su*k? OH YEAH!

Sorry you're going through this.. hang tough!

Sounds like something that would happen at my company, and it does happen at my company. I cannot tell you how many times it has happen to me in the past. I used to be negative about it like you are doing now, and to tell you the truth it got me nowhere...Now I just grin and bare it....

Hopefully your company is not like my company where they dont really care if you do the work and you arent going to get taken care of in the future....Hopefully your company will remember the extra work you did and reward you for it in the future.

Re: i am soooo pissed OMG IM SO GONNA GET FIRED UPDATED! lol

Michi,
I can understand why this would upset you, but in all honesty -this is an old Publishing trick!!! This industry is famous for giving assistants al the grunt work, and then doubling that workload without any extra compensation! This same thing happened to me when my first boss left - but she was a rare gem because she actually pulled for me to get a good promotion/raise if I was going to be doing her job.... But that was an exception. I seee it all the time at my job now too. My advice is HANG IN THERE! This will only work in your favor in the end. Do the work, LEARN how to do your boss's job and chalk it up to experience! Your coworkrs will see you as someone willing to go the extra mile and you will be respected for bearing a heavier workload. Unless you just don't really care about this job - I would do what you can to get people to notice how well you adapt to new responsibilities.

ETA - I doubbt you would get fired over what you siad, but your co-worker was right to advise you not to speak so freely about your opinion of the situation... You never know when things like that can come back to haunt you, and honestly - you're not really giving your co-workers a good impression by talking that way either. JMO I know what it's like in this field - but you really have to work your butt off in the beginning if you want to go anywhere in Publishing.
