advice please! David's Bridal - long
I went to David's Bridal in Carle Place today and liked a few of the dresses AND it's within my price range. My question is...does anyone have any positive/negative feedback on their store in Carle Place? I've heard it's very busy but it was empty today b/c it was New Year's Day. The saleswoman I had was absolutely terrible, but I didn't let that effect my view of the dresses. Although I would insist on not buying the dress from her specifically, does anyone have any comments on the service of the store itself?? I'm a little leary of it although I checked with the Better Business Bureau and it only had 1 compliant filed in 36 months. As any FYI - Bridal Reflections in Massapequa which I thought had a much better reputation had 5 compliants in 36 months so go figure... The only other dress I've really come across so far that I also liked was at Flowerama's in Manhaset by Demetrious and was almost 900.00 which was out of my range. I am in the $500.00 range and did like a few of the dresses I tried on at David's. One other question - Did anyone have an organza dress? Was it wrinkled? Someone told me when I was trying it on to see how it wrinkled because that's how the material is and would be on my wedding day. Is that the case with organza material? Thank you so much for your input. Greatly appreciated.

Don't know anything about David's but I may be able to lend some insight to the fabric question. Is it silk organza? that will make a big difference, or at least that is what I have been told. Many designers now have fabrics that they refer to as "organza", but can be made out of different fabrics (most likely polyester). Even though poly organza is a much cheaper material than silk organza, it doesn't wrinkle that badly, since it is still polyester (a pretty tough fabric). Hope this helps! We are getting married on the 16th.. Where are you having your reception?

I bought my dress at David's and I was very pleased with the service. My saleswoman was Lupe and she was great. I haven't had any fittings or alterations yet, so we'll see...but so far so good. I, too, was in the $500 dollar range-they have a lot of nice dresses at that price. Good luck!

I think that is my dress. My saleswoman is Theresa and I think she is wonderful. My dress came in within a month. Very wrinkled, but I saw them pressing one and it looked very nice. My aunt had an organza dress and it looked fabulous. So far, my David's experience has been great. I got the bridesmaids dresses there too (with Theresa). My first fitting is the end of the month. If I am not comfortable, I will take the dress elsewhere. Good Luck to you your FI. It's really nice to find TRUE LOVE the second time around (I did too)

I, too, got my dress from David's. I ordered it with Lupe as well, and she was very helpful. I think there is a distinct difference between the first and the second time you go there, b/c after the first time, Lupe pretty much knew it was ok to leave me alone with the dresses. I liked that- that I was able to pick a dress on my own without needing her to be there all the time. I received my dress in about a month. (It's not organza, so I can't help you there) I also ordered my b-maids dresses there and they took the full 6 weeks. I understand how much of a factory it can seem to be, but for the variety and the price, it's good. Two more things- I got a coupon off their website for $50 off my dress (I also got coupons for them from theknot.com) AND- I've heard that their fittings aren't the best in world, so I'm getting fitted elsewhere. Hope this helps and good luck! Why is it that you bother coming here?

Do a search on David's. You will find a girl (I forgot her name) who told all about her experience. She was very happy, even with the alterations. I tried on a dress that looks exactly the same by Eve of Milady. I did not think the quality was much better and it was $1000 more. I tried on hundreds of dresses and I did not find much of a correlation between price and quality. Name and price, yes. For one day, why pay more for the same dress? it is def worth checking out-- most importantly because you will not find prices like these any where else-- I cant see having these parents(in my case my brother and cousins) pay between $125 and $150 for a dress for a 5 year old...

Thank you All! I just spoke with my MOH and found out she bought her wedding gown at David's. I didn't realize that so I feel a lot better about the whole thing because her dress was totally fine. I agree that it's one day and for the price, I probably can't beat it. I'm going to go back because they are having a sale for a week and see if I get the same good feeling about the dress. If so, I think I'm gonna go for it and not worry about organza getting wrinkly! Thanks again :) Hi, we just used a makeup artist for my sisters wedding. She also reccomended a hair dresser that came to us last minute after my sisters hairdreser cancelled 3 days before her wedding. They both did a fantastic job and I am reccomending them to about 3 of my friends that are getting married this year.I believe the trial for the makeup is free.I am at work now and dont have the # her name is Jackie. You can e-mail me and I will give you all the info.Good luck.Erika eajet@aol.com You mentioned services who help you find hidden locations, where could I find someone who does this and how much do they cost?- Do they charge for a consultation?

My first fitting is scheduled for 1/29. I will update you on how it goes! We booked April 27, 2002. I was also told that at that time of year they only do 2 weddings at a time and that they are staggered. So far we are the only ones booked for that night. They said that usually only in Sept and Oct is there a chance they book all three rooms b/c it's their busy months. Being the only wedding wasn't a main concern for us, but the best advice I can give is to go with your gut. Like you I loved their whole atmosphere but honestly what sold us on it was what you get for your money. Best of luck I'm sure you'll go with whatever suits the two of you.

I ordered my bridesmaids dresses and MOB's there because they were reasonable ($110) and the experience was a positive one. I didn't like any of their bridal gowns personaly so I got my gown elsewhere. It's 50/50 - you get what you pay for there and have heard you are better to get alterations elsewhere. But all in all my experience was a positive one with the bridesmaids and the MOB's. My wedding is in June 15, 2002. The have an area for an outside ceremony, but mine is at a church. The price I am paying is $70.00 per person plus 17% grat and 8.25 tax with min gtd of 60 people. I was impressed by the view and we went to their bridal show to taste the food and I thought it was great. I also like coming in on the boat, but have heard to make sure you announce it to your guests so they know you are coming. I plan on having a strolling violist so he can stay in the room or go in or out on the deck for the cocktail hour, but still getting prices on that. I will ask him to make the announcement of us coming in on the boat. Ask for Lou at the Chateau for more info. I think it is a nice place for a small wedding as the room holds 125 pp. and you will have lots of room - I'm only having 8 per table. Let me know how your search goes. Jennifer When I suggested a restaurant I didn't just mean a few tables. I meant either a separate room or the whole restaurant. The Country House in Stony Brook is the type of place I meant. It might be too far for you, but there are many places that would match what a place like The Country House has to offer. Check them out anyway, at least for ideas and for what is possible. Ask for Kevin (and mention my name.)

I got my gown at David's but didn't like the bridesmaids or MOB's. It is 50/50 but I had a great experience with them. The cost was reasonable, I found a beautiful dress, the service was friendly and prompt. The only alterations I needed was the bustle and they did a good job. I dont know about that particular place but I have been checking out places and was impressed by Fred Astaire studios--they were very in tune with the fact that we are clueless and that this is completely wedding related--meaning they are not getting us in over our heads!!! Thanks for checking out the hair salon for me;-)

I used Theresa as my saleslady and she was great. I am planning on registering at Fortunoffs b/c I've had good buying experiences there and Penneys (b/c my mother in insisting I register at a large chain accesible is suffolk county) Maybe I will try target since it got a good review here. Thanks for checking out the hair salon for me;-)
