Did anyone have problems travelling with their "updated" passport after they changed their name?
So I paid $40 to change my name only to have them put an "addendum" in my passport only to still have my maiden name with a "turn to page 36" on it
Did anyone get problems when going through customs since the agent has to turn to the back of the book?

Re: Did anyone have problems travelling with their "updated" passport after they changed their name?
I just got back from Mexico and I had a few very minor problems. Every time I showed my passport, I had to remind the person to check the backpage. Our tickets were in my married name so I made sure to get my passport changed. It was a little annoying because I kept getting double checked but I can't imagine that I am the first person to go through immigration with an ammended passport!

You should be oK. Just make sure to keep your marriage license with you as well in case you do encounter any problems.

Very true... didn't look at it that way. I just don't want any hassles. So they'll probably just double check me...

Re: Did anyone have problems travelling with their "updated" passport after they changed their name?
OMG! I was so amazed the other day when I went through at the gate when we went to Budapest. The woman looked twice at my passport, so I mentioned the name change in the back, and she said oh, fine and let me through. When we got on the plane, I looked at my boarding pass - I had DH's and he had mine - IT WASN'T EVEN THE SAME GENDER, LET ALONE LAST NAME!!!
It's a little disturbing how little they pay attention to discrepancies between your passport and your ticket.
Anyway, I've travelled to and from NY and Budapest from London have nto had any problems with the amended passport. They know where to look, you're definitely not the first.

I'm actually going to be going to the netherlands for my honey moon. How do you get an addendum on your passport?

Re: Did anyone have problems travelling with their "updated" passport after they changed their name?
thats the reason I still haven't changed my name. I didn't want any problems, and now we are going to Europe for New Years, so REALLY didn't want to introduce any. I figured, once things slow down, I will than change my name.

Re: Did anyone have problems travelling with their "updated" passport after they changed their name?
How do you get the addendum? From what I see online, it says it must be within one year of the issuance of the passport . Does that mean if my passport if 5 years old, I have to get a new one? I really don't want to give up my current passport b/c I like to keep it as a souvenir of my travels - I doubt I'll ever get another "Fiji" stamp! Anyone know? TIAPassport info?

I totally ignored that one year from date of issue thing and went ahead and mailed my original passport and marriage certificate. It came back ammended, no problems.

Did you just skip over the first question on the application which asks if it was issued in the last year?
Thanks!

I'm sorry! I just checked on the site, it seems that they changed it! Addendums used to be free (or at least it was when I did it). It seems that you have to pay now.

Re: Did anyone have problems travelling with their "updated" passport after they changed their name?
I have not changed the name on my passport yet, so it is still in my maiden name. We just went to Paris and my ticket was in my married name. The only person that noticed was the lady that checked us in at CDG airport in France. The person in JFK did not even realize that the names did not match! I brought a copy of our marriage license just in case and had no problems.

Re: Did anyone have problems travelling with their "updated" passport after they changed their name?
I'm not changing my name on my passport till it expires in another 3 years. I called the passport agency and they said I'd have to pay the full amount to get a new one so I think I can wait. As long as your tickets match your passport you'll be fine.
