I am so mad at Banana Republic!

I used to shop there all the time....now I can't even afford their "sale" stuff......and my income increased! Does anyone else find their stuff way expensive now?

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

They are my store of choice...but in the past 4-5 years they have at least doubled their prices. I used to be able to get a nice skirt there for like $50, now I don't think there is anything under $98.

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

yea - i am not impressed. i guess i can get cheaper stuff at the tanger outlet.
j crew used to be too expensive for me but i see their stuff is much more reasonable than banana republic - well, at least their sale stuff.

its a shame. they are outpricing themselves right into poor sales. they used to be my first stop at te mall...now i dont even go in!

I have never been to much a fan because they were just too expensive, even the sale stuff.

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

I could never afford their clothes to begin with, and they are SO expensive now! I've only shopped there once - and that was with a gift certificate my boss gave me for christmas one year :)

Most of the girls I work with shop there all the time ...... then again, I guess if I lived on the Upper East side in an apartment where my daddy paid the rent as opposed to having a mortgage, household bills, and a puppy to pay for... I might shop there too! I'm so cheap when it comes to clothes though, and I hate shopping too! I'm just happy when I can spend $40 at H & M and get a few cute clothes!

Definitely. JCrew has some great sales though, but I never buy any of their full-priced clothes anymore...

I shop there but not a fan of their clothes the past year or two. They just don't fit me well.

I have had a gift card there since Xmas and haven't found anything to buy!

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

They used to sell stuff like safari clothes and pith helmets. I think they were more of a direct sales company when they started - catalogs. They have changed a lot. I don't like their stuff enough to spend that kind of $$$ on it.

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

There is an outlet store in Riverhead. It's pretty decent, but I feel that the sizes run big out there. Again, it's an outlet so it's hit or miss.
The Ann Taylor outlet out there is AWESOME!

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

Did anyone notice Express going in the same direction? ... their pants used to be in the $40's/$50's range ... now they all seem to be closer to $80 per pair. And their tops too seem more expensive than in prior years ...

Yes! I've given up on BR due to the prices, and now it looks like Express is getting just as bad. But I have to say, those Editor pants fit me better than any other pants I've had in years. I splurged on two pairs for fall/winter and I want to get another pair for spring-- I have a 20% off coupon......

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

those editor pants look awesome. I stopped in there because I had to use a merchandise credit and i just wasn't willing to spent the $78 in them. I bought a necklace instead! Maybe for the summer though cause they look very well made. Still I was shocked at the prices, I guess I haven't been there in a while.

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

The Editor pants ARE really well made. But I really haven't found that a lot of Express's other stuff is-- I've had shirts there that shrunk after being washed in cold water, and air dried. I felt really ripped off because those shirts were not cheap!!!

Re: I am so mad at Banana Republic!

The clothes at the BR outlet are not the same as the clothes in the regular store. They make a separate cheaper line (sizes are cut the same, fabric isn't as good quality, etc.) that they sell at the outlets. The only things that are actually from BR are the few things you can find there that have a line across the label---and that usually means there was something wrong with it. Stinks, I know- but I asked.
