Especially DUET brides- Ideas for engagement shoot locations
So FH and I changed photographers in January and booked Duet. In order to convince us of our choice (After losing a $600 deposit with my other photographer) they threw in a free engagement shoot. My original shoot (photgrapher #1) was in Heckshire Park at the height of the fall leaves and it was ok. Well my wedding is closer and if the weather ever cooperates we will be able to have our shoot with Duet but where do we have it? I love the architecture of the Vanderbuilt Mansion in Centerport but I refuse to pay a fee of hundreds of dollars just to use the grounds for an engagement shoot.
I know Sunken Meadow Beach is an option but I was wondering what other options exist.
Has anyone used Caumsett Park? Does anyone know if they charge a fee there?
Any other ideas would be appreciated.
TIA

Re: Especially DUET brides- Ideas for engagement shoot locations
are you sure the vanderbilt mansion has a fee if you are not in a wedding party? I think someone at Duet told us we could have gone to Old Westbury Gardens for our e-shoot, and it was only $5 a person, since it wasn't for a wedding.

The duck pond in Stonybrook, Vanderbuilt Museum in Centerport, Crab Meadow Beach in Northport ( they have some nice things like the long board walk and a jetty), Sagamore Hill, Old Bethpage Village, Atlantis Marine World. Hope this helps.

I was thinking Planting Fields. Is it true that they only charge the huge fee if it's a wedding shoot? 5 bucks a person I can handle I just think a few hundred bucks is highway robbery... again, they hear wedding and

what about the park in Northport village? The long dock w/ benches at the end, the gazebo, swings...even the town itself is beautiful.
I would love pics there!

Re: Especially DUET brides- Ideas for engagement shoot locations
Not to be "donna downer" but the area by the dock in Northport is under construction, and I'm not sure when the project is supposed to be finished (Obviously they are hoping by the summer, but this is re-do of a project done poorly the first time). But there is the rest of the park with the Gazebo and playgrounds. I would think Caumsett would be beautiful, as well as the area around Coindre Hall in Huntington (as far as I know both of those places are Town Parks and your only admission might be the parking fee). And don't forget the US Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point (the northern tip of Great Neck) is open to the public and would have great scenery. There is also an old school lighthouse...in either Old Field of Setauket that I ride to in the summer--not sure what the accesibility is, but its a very quaint little spot by the water. Good Luck finding your picture taking place!

I took my Casual Pictures there and my pictures came out beautiful. We took them a week after that big snowstorm that we had this year. That snow storm was a blessing in disguise. It gave our pictures the perfect background. We also took pictures in the town and they came out really great as well.

Re: Especially DUET brides- Ideas for engagement shoot locations
Wow, thanks to all who have replied.
As these pics need to be taken during the week, after work and our wedding is in 110 days that kind of narrows down our choices.
Central Park is beautiful but neither one of us works in the city and it would be difficult to take the day off for FH with the wedding coming up so close
It might just have to be Northport. We live there. Yes, I remember the dock is under construction but if I could find enough other sites, the gazebo, etc. it might be the best place.
Kings Point might also be an idea. I'm not sure if we could get there in time for an afternoon sun set.
Thanks for all of the suggestions. Felicia your pics are beautiful and one of the reasons why I switched to Duet.
Thanks ladies
