Any lawyers on right now? OR ANYBODY who is smart!!!
I have a complaint/question about a lawyer I was hoping someone could help me out with.

Can you get ahold of anyone at the law firm? Was it a larger firm or a lawyer working alone? Even a paralegal or secretary should be able to check up and see what the hold up is. Has your mother tried going in person? I don't know if legally they can back out of the contract for the settlement if your mother held up her end of the bargain....
ETA: Not sure if I am smart but that's my 2 cents! My mother had a h@ll of a time getting money from a lawyer after my aunt passed away and they sold her co-op in the city...She still hasn't seen all the $ and that was 2 years ago.

Thats what I thought about the contract also.
My mom reached a receptionist who said they are moving locations and he would call her. That was a few days ago. Since then she has left a few more frantic messages with no response.

I would go in person to the old location and ask where the new one is. A lawyer can't just be MIA for a week when he has cases pending like this.

Are we long lost sisters? My father did the same thing to my mother when he left her with 5 kids and no job.  It was awful, my heart goes out to your mom.
Ultimately, as long as your mom can prove she put the money into escrow and it was the fault of this lawyer that the $ didn't get to the company, she is not at fault. Unfortunately, it may take some court papers, etc to prove it if she doesn't get in touch with this guy asap.
I would suggest she go in person since he's not returning her calls, and bring all the paperwork with her. I would demand to speak to someone, anyone, at the firm if she cannot get in to see her lawyer.
 to your mom.
ETS: I see that they've already moved. Tell her to call the Bar Association and find out where he is and explain the situation to them, they should help her at least find him.

Julie don't leave until you get an answer in writing! If you can't see the lawyer your mom worked with ask for one of the partners and get them to sign something that says they will turn over the $$ to the co.
