waiting for FH...he's home now =)
He left Elmont @ 3:40pm, heading to his parents in Kings Park.
Here we are, 4 hours later, and he is still more than 10 exits from the one he needs...
His cell died, the poor guy took cold medicine and he's all spacey... he just called me from a payphone in a Burger King 'cause he was hungry and had to use the potty...
poor guy!!! I wish elementary schools around here were hiring!

That's what DH and I noticed too when we were out today. People decide since it's snowing out, they can make their own laws like
1) You're allowed to turn two lanes into one
2)It's okay to go through red lights (saw this a LOT)
3)Since you're only driving 2 MPH, it's okay to use your cell phone

I was out on the roads from between 7:30-9:30 tonight, and I absolutely do not agree that they weren't bad anymore.
The parkways still had snow, ice & slush. Some spots seemed ok, but before you knew it, you were back driving on roads that seemed like they'd barely been touched by a plow. There were plenty of cars that had spun off the parkways, and plenty of cars that were slipping and slidding.
The only people I noticed who were driving like MORONS were the people getting annoyed at those who were taking care in the slick conditions.
In my opinion, the biggest MORONS tend to be those driving SUVs and trucks ... who think they are invincible in these kinds of treacherous conditions, and fail to remember they are driving along side other cars that may not handle these conditions as well as their cars.

I actually had a big pickup truck tailgating me for several miles tonight, flashing his brights at me.
Meanwhile, I'm in the left lane, passing cars .. and I have a car in front of me (about 3-4 car lengths ahead .. and that car has cars in front of it).
So what does jacka$$ do .. wait for a split moment to get into the middle lane, then cut back in front of me and slam on his brakes!!!
I was already slowing down from this jerk cutting me off, so I was prepared .. but when idiot finally gets off his brakes .. he ends up getting stuck and tailgating the very car that was just a few car lengths in front of me!!!
Where the F@!# did this a$$ think he was going to go?????
So much for keeping a safe distance between you & the car in front!

yeah, people can be very rude.
On the other hand, I can imagine its really rough to be stuck in traffic for 4.5 hours when your commute normally takes 45 minutes.
I try to stay off the roads when it's snowing - luckily, I work for a physical therapist that treats a lot of elderly patients, so we always close when its snowing. PLUS, it's only 2.4 miles from my house.

He was stuck on the Cross Island, then the LIE til he switched over to the N. State - then he was stuck on there. He applied for so many jobs out here (Smithtown, hauppauge, npt, HHH, even Sachem) - he just couldn't find an "in".
He's just happy to have a job - not too many teachers retiring lately!

I'm hoping tomorrow morning will be a little better - he already knows he has a 90 min delay, but I have to be at Stony Brook @ 8. They NEVER delay/cancel classes!!!
