FYI....Re: Invitations

There was a thread last week regarding the use of "Two Thousand and Five" vs. "Two Thousand Five". I personally thought it should be "Two Thousand Five" because the "and" implies a decimal or fraction (I'm a math teacher ). Well after several sleepless nights I went to see the proof of my invitation. I told the woman I wanted to change it and she looked at me like I was nuts!!!!I insisted but then she said that people are so used to it with the and that they would think I made a mistake. Anyway, to make a long story short, I kept it as is and asked and English teacher at my school. He said "and" was appropriate when been written out for that purpose. After all this, I don't even think anyone would ever notice!

To be honest...I don't believe I ever saw an invitation that didn't say "and". All samples I received and anytime I look at one on the internet...it all says "and"!

Is it proper then? I always assumed people just did it because that's how invitation books have it. I took out the "and" since I'm a teacher too and always thought it was incorrect. I haven't seen my proof, but maybe I should add the "and"???
