Taking a break from REPORT CARDS
God I hate doing report cards!!! I was on a roll but I need a break...so I just wanted to see what everyone was up to on here. Hope everyone had a great weekend

Since I work in a school/day treatment center, we do not do traditional report cards. I only have 8 kids in my class but what an 8 they are. One jumped me the other day because I confiscated the Game Boy he was not allowed to have in school in the first place. Another had a tantrum because he did not earn a can of soda for not doing his homework. We are not allowed to be punitive. We can only reward. When the time comes for "progress reports, I get bummed out because they progress so slowly. So in that respect, I hate doing report cards too.

Brooklyn. Non-public special ed. I'd tell you where but I am HIPAA bound because we are day treatment and I have probably already said too much. But I have been called every name in the book, been spit on, kicked an cursed at. It's all in a day's work. Those incidences are few and far between and despite that, I love what I do and canot see myself doing anythign else.

Where in Brooklyn??? I work in Ditmas Park/Flatbush. The commute royally stinks!
My friend and I were going to do the conversion program while getting another masters in Special Ed....at the BOE they said that we might be put in a school like that..and I was like no way!! I don't have that much patience...I give you a lot of credit!!!!

Crown Heights. It really isn't horrible. I have a tremendous amount of support with two paras, supervisors, social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, OTs, SLP's and everything else a day treatment center should have. We use a team approach to everything. Though at times, the clinical staff tries to undermine the educational staff and save the day when a kid is having a hissy fit.

Oh my FI works in Crown Heights and so does one of his friends. My FI is at a Junior HS and his friend is at a HS
