All i have to say is don't do it to far in advance. my MIL wanted to go a year before the wedding, and we did and then the place ended up closing, which was all my fault not hers for wanting to go so early and then two months before the wedding we rebooked at another place. Which was more then enough time we didn't seem him to have a problem with any place we looked at with two months to go.

we just booked the place we're having our rehearsal dinner.. only cause we were calling around just trying to find out ballpark prices and really thought it would be nice to have it at the place we got engaged.. but they were booked.. so we decided to just book our 2nd favorite restaurant while we knew it was still open.

We booked in OCt for July...mainly just because that was the only time my FILs would be in NY and they wanted to see the places.

It also depends on if it is a time of year where people book a lot of parties (ie for communions, holiday, etc).

I just wasn't sure since it will be on a Friday night if we would have a harder time booking the closer it got to the wedding. My FILs are throwing it so I don't want to get too involved but I was getting a little concerned. I am not so picky- as long as it is not a seafood restaurant or chinese food -my two most hated cuisines on the planet and of course all fast food restaurants are out

Depends on where the wedding is and where you want to book. The North Fork has only a few restaurants that could take a large party, so every vendor I talked to was asking me about the rehearsal dinner...I got paranoid and booked 6 months in advance.

We actually just booked ours tonight for July  I don't think it needs to be done this far in advance, but our RD is on a Friday night and the restaurant is a little small. So I wanted to be sure we'd get the place wanted.

We bk'd our the end of Jan. for April. I would do it atleast 1-2 months prior. Invites go out 1 month prior.

I booked mine 2 weeks ago for 9/30. It's on a Friday night and a couple places were booked. If you are having it on a Thursday, I wouldn't worry, but if it's a friday I would get crackin!!

ours was SO last minute. Probably less than a month ahead of time.We had trouble finding a place, not b/c t hey were booked, but because we had too big of a group for somepalces on a Friday night & too small for a private room at other places.

we are calling around now for november...and was actually told by many places to switch the rehearsal to a thurs night so they can accomodate us more.......but we pretty much have it set already....which is 5 months ahead...but i think 1-2 is FINE
