No offense, but you say NO! if you teach elementary kids it's really easy to tell them it's a "grown-ups" only party. if you teach secondary students do you really want to see them see you and your husband drink, etc. etc. not appropriate in my opinion, and i think the older kids understand that.

i am not inviting any students to any part of my day... i love them all to pieces, but it's a little too personal in my opinion. i will show them the pictures at a later date.

I agree. I like a lot of my H.S. students, and we chat about "real world" stuff all the time, but they're not my friends, they're my students. It's not appropriate to invite them to your reception. The ceremony, though, especially if it's at a church/synagogue, is more of an "open" thing, and if they really want to see you on your day, and you really trust them to behave.... maybe.

I totally agree. When my seventh graders make comments about being invited I make a joke and change the subject. I don't think it is appropriate for them to come.

I teach elementary school (4th grade) and I have no problem with my students coming to the church to watch me get married. I personally see nothing wrong with it for MY wedding. It's a matter of personal choice though.

I teach HS and would never invite my students to my wedding ceremony OR reception. I'm not their peer, I'm their teacher. When they make jokes about being invited, I just tell them, you're all invited, b/c we're going to have it right here, in my classroom. And they laugh and know not to push the issue.

ha, one of my students said yesterday "you'd better invite me to your wedding, Ms. G!"

I was like "uh huh. Sure. Whatever you say."

I mean, come on. With all the cash I'm shelling out per person, I'm not wasting more on a 13 year old who spends half his time in my class making me ask him to be quiet!

Re: Now, for all of you teachers that are and have invited your student lets see your invitations please!!!

I completely agree that the students should not and will not be invited to my wedding. I teach elem. and HS. It is definitely easier to tell the elem students no. They all want to come and I tell them it is far away (I teach in the Hamptons). My older students respect the no, but I promise them plenty of pictures and stories when I get back from the Honeymoon. That is my personal opinion.

Ohhh I wish I could invite my students...but then again I have about 500 of them hahaha! I teach music for grades 1-5, but in New Jersey. My wedding's on Long Island of course. I might make a casual mention of it to my 4th and 5th graders.....it's a pretty affluent community and I know many of their parents have summer homes out East, so if they wanna stop by the church....who knows? I'd love to see a few!! I wish I could organize a group and have them sing at my wedding!

Re: Now, for all of you teachers that are and have invited your student lets see your invitations please!!!

i did not want my students at my ceremony. i'm their teacher not their friend and i've been to many of my colleagues' weddings where the kids were AWFUL at the church. besides being inappropriately dressed (both kids and parents) they ran around during the ceremony, laughed, talked and then got in every picture after. some of my friends were devastated when they got their proofs and their students were in all of them.

i don't know about you, but when i leave school for the day, i leave my students behind. yeah, they're cute and i love them and all, but my life is personal. it's not a public show.

My students will definitely NOT be invited to my wedding; I'm not even sure I'm inviting any of my colleagues (too expensive). As for the ceremony, I have an advisory class of about 16 students. I'm like their counselor. We're very close. If they wanted to, I would not have an objection to them coming to the ceremony. I trust that they'd be respectful.

Re: Now, for all of you teachers that are and have invited your student lets see your invitations please!!!

I got married at the place and invited my fourth grade class to the ceremony ONLY! While guests were heading to cocktail hour, I took class pictures. I had about 12 students show up. It was wonderful!!
Here is the invitation I used that I actually copied from this site.

It’s hard to imagine that in just a little while,
Rich and I will be walking down the aisle.
Nothing would give us more joy and pride,
Than to have you right there by our side.

Please join us for the ceremony of

Ms. Rachel Gangi
&
Mr. Rich Woodworth

on Friday, July 1, 2005
at Westbury Manor
Westbury, New York

The ceremony is from
6:30pm to 7:00pm

~A class photo will immediately follow~
