ugh! driving home and was so happy until...

I got pulled over, and got a TICKET! stupid state police officer! now,I am complaining I am the daughter of two cops and have a badge and card. And although I hardly get pulled over, when I do, I usually get a warning.
this guy pulls me over- tells me I was going 77- on the Meadowbrook and I was in the left lane but I wasnt going 77... but i didnt complain. i pull out my license, he sees my detective card, asks whose it is- I told him it was my dads- he asks whereI am coming from- I said school- Im a teacher. He basically said he was just going to run my license to see if I am clean and I said fine and he comes back with a ticket!!! I dislike P.O. Clifford the State Police officer- then he speeds away and pulls someone else over! I was so happy that vacation finally has started and it has to start like this. I feel like pleading not guilty just for the he&& of it. I honestly dont think I was going 77.. I saw him parked ahead of me..

Anyway, enough of the bit%& fest....

**THIS WAS FOR VENTING PURPOSES ONLY!!**

I got a ticket the other day for not having a hands-free cell phone. That's $150 ticket.

So sorry to hear that!

You absolutley should go to the court date provided on the ticket!! Just go (if you can) and let them make the offer .. let them do all the talking .. you absolutely should be able to have that reduced .. probably to "following too close" or "failure to yield."

Good Luck!!

I have a badge from my dad as well and it has ALWAYS helped me out in situations like these. Only the a s s cops dont like it and give out tickets anyway. Who said you werent allowed to have a small badge?

not true- I am allowed to carry a small replica of my fathers detective shield- thats why they make them! usually when cops see that, they let you go because now a days everyone has a card.
But I didnt even take the shield out! Behind my license is my detective card. As soon as he saw it, he asked whose it was. And when he took my license he told me he just wanted to run it to make sure it was clean... I was shocked when he came back with a ticket. and tickets are now computerized. its on a fax like paper. I wouldnt be so mad if he was a di&k to begin with but he was nice and he made it like I was getting a warning. If I honestly thought he was going to give me a ticket I would have whipped out the shield right away!

IMO -- if you were going faster than the speed limit, you deserve to get a ticket --not saying you were, only you know if you were.

same thing with the cell phone and seat belt rule, if you break the law, you pay the fine

i hate when people use things like badges and shields, that they really shouldn't have unless they are from that profession, to get out of tickets

same thing with handicap passes. i know people that will take a grandparents handicap pass to get a good spot at the mall and screw someone out of it that could use it.

He was probably being nice on purpose because he didn't want to hear any excuses as to why he shouldn't give out a ticket. It must be quota time...

Re: ugh! driving home and was so happy until...

Well us common folk get tickets for less and got nothing to go on.

Jim and I had a cop pull up behind us in our DRIVE WAY to give us a ticket for no yeilding right of way when we DID.

Jim also got a ticket for going 5 miles over the speed limit once.

Us unfortunately common, non-related to cops just have to suffer.

*shrug*

If you weren't really speeding, it sux you got a ticket. If you were speeding (as I used to all the time when I had my car) then hey, I guess one time aint that bad is it?

Can you plead it down?

give me a break!!! the guy was being a jerk. It was 3:45 p.m. I was on the Southern State in the Left Lane going just as fast as anyone else. I was honestly not going 77 but I wasnt going to argue with him. And its not like I saw him and sped right passed him.

And so what if I have a badge and a shield? the cops dont even have a contract so this is considered their "perk". And it is A LOT different then a handicap parking tag- you cant even compare the two!

its so true... and yes they do have an unwriiten quota rule. I dated a cop for years.
He wouldnt even look at me when he handed it to me and he got in his car, sped off and pulle dover someone else 2 seconds later. Like I said it was State Police...

Re: ugh! driving home and was so happy until...

I agree with kdelace...

All that our cop family members go through and what we have to go through being the family members of the cops...I think we are allowed this and so do most other cops who respect the badges and cards when they see them. Its like an unspoken form of respect to the other cop and we are definately entitled to carry them around.

Kdelace..so sorry you got a ticket hun..and sorry that the cop was a jerk! I totally understand where you are coming from!

no but I am sure that if you had a badge or card, you wouldnt be posting telling me I deserved a ticket or that you hate people who use badges and shields. every job has its perks so if the cops share their cards with their family members, there is nothing wrong with that. JMO

Re: ugh! driving home and was so happy until...

I sorta see where don is coming from.

It's sort of unfair that the rest of us who were unfortunately not born into a cop family don't get to use the same 'perks' as those who are.

That's why there are so many cards out there like you said. So many people, myself included, feel cops don't deserve a 'perk' when it comes to breaking the law. It's the law, they are meant to up hold it, not be above it.

Since I've twice nearly been struck by a cop who ran stop signs while in their patrol vehicles, I feel strongly against 'perks' like this.

We all agree it bites to get a ticket. I think a majority if not ALL of us are guilty of speeding at least once or done something we 'got away with' cause a cop wasn't around, so it's not like we are pure snow-white innocent. But a lot of us don't get a 'break' like you do if you pull out a badge. From our meek point of view it's very unfair.

Re: ugh! driving home and was so happy until...

Vent away hun...some people still care what others have to say...

As far as the "perks" of being a member of a policemans family..yes I definately do say that we deserve something out of the very hard lifestyle that we have to live. I respect the opinions of others and I am not here to try to sway anyone but I know from personal experience that cops get hardly ANY PERKS AT ALL! They get spit on, ridiculed, shot at, abused in the streets all because they are cops. There is no feeling in the world like dreading that phone call at night that your father has been killed in the streets, or that your uncle has been thrown off a rooftop while in pursuit of a murderer..there is nothing like growing up without a father because his schedule was so insane that he was never even around for christmas half the time...there is nothing like sharing your family member with the "force" only to have it mess up their heads in the end. If my familys one perk is to carry out a card and a badge that the department LEGALLY HANDS OUT to family members..then so be it. Its just one thing that they can do for us. I have never used my card or badge to get out of situations where I knew I was wrong and the times that it was used..it was seen by the cop first and recognized and respected.

Until you are the family member of a police officer, I dont think you can fully understand us.

Re: ugh! driving home and was so happy until...

A lot of jobs have perks - you work at a store - you're getting discounts - you're a stockbroker - you always know where to invest your money!
I know someone who's dad is a dentist and has always written his family scrips for basic stuff so they don't have to see the doctor.
Ethical - maybe not always - but that's life and the way it is.
There are plenty of people out there who dont have the courage, demeanor, personality, call it what you want to be a police officer or a fireman - we're lucky that enough do! When my FIL is putting his life at risk every day or my DH is getting out of his warm bed at 4 AM to answer a fire call because someone left a pot on their stove...that's what we need to remember.

I'm off my soapbox now!
