Breast Milk Storage

For those of you who are pumping and storing...how much do you store per bag/container.

I am currently pumping any excess milk to use when I introduce the bottle in a few weeks (I have to return to work).

I have been storing about 3 to 4 ounces per bag and I am not sure if that is too much or not enough.

thanks

Re: Breast Milk Storage

I mix it up because I never know how much I will need at one time. I have anywhere from 2 oz to 6 oz per bag. I base it on what he is currently eating. In the beginning when I was starting to freeze it I wasn't sure how much he was eating because he wasn't on many bottles so I was doing 2-3oz. Now that I know he eats 6oz per meal, I starting doing some 4&6 oz. HTH!

Re: Breast Milk Storage

I always stored 4 ounces per bag. I wasn't sure how much milk she would be taking by the time I used the frozen milk. She is taking 6 ounces per bottle now, and I am using my frozen milk - so I take out 6 bags for a day, which is 24 ounces, and I make 4 bottles out of that. I think it's good to always freeze the same amount of ounces, so that you know exactly what you have. Now I freeze in 6 ounce portions because that's what she's taking, so it will be a little less work when I get around to using those bags.

Re: Breast Milk Storage

I was always afraid of wasting so that's why I stagger it in different amounts. I have labels that I purchased when I purchased the bags where I put the date and amount on it. I only freeze the extra that I wind up from pumping in the middle of the night. Whatever I get during the day I use for his next days meal.

Good Luck!!
