Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
Ok- trying to figure some stuff out here.. If you were an OOT, when would you book your room for the wedding?
I sent everyone STDs, etc. The invites went out last week... barely anyone of these true OOT has booked rooms-- do we think that they are not coming to the wedding??
I ask for two reasons-- one- I have 20 rooms booked already out of my 25 room block, I already have increased the # of rooms as much as I can, the hotel is booked for the weekend. I just did a back up room blocking at another hotel.
Secondly, I just am wondering if they are coming or not.. Cause I am so damn impatient I cannot wait to get their RSVP in the mail!!
What are your thoughts on this?? Don;t you thnk they would have booked flights, etc. and made any other travel plans by now?
ETA-- I have crossed over to crazy land ladies!!

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
i tend to make a reservation at the hotel the day i mail the rsvp or the day before- they are usually done pretty close together
but if the invite is mailed to my FI i usually have to wait about 2 weeks for him to give me the invitation before anything happens - i never get the STD

Depends how far. I think my family from PA and NJ arent booking rooms but far away OOT guests really have to I am guessing.

absolutely, if I go to any OOT weddings, I'd book the room by the time the invite told me to book...might wait a little longer on flights to shop around for fare...

Yeah- I am talking like the old people in Florida and a couple others who live like in Denver and stuff... I mean, you would think they would book their rooms!
Can you tell I need peopel to NOT come to the wedding! I am so scared.

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
Hmmm, kind of torn on this one....cause normally I always have a long distance to travel for weddings yet, most times I don't book until much later after the invitations went out. But here's my thought....if your OOT guests are seasoned travelers, like I tend to be...depending on where I'm traveling to / from I know that there is not necessarily a rush to buy air tickets always to get the best deals, especially with all the discount airlines these days. So even though I know I'm going, I'll book room / flights when I get around to it or before the deadline to secure the rate. However, if your OOT'ners are not seasoned travelers...I would think that would inspire them to book early.
Hmmmmmm, it's tough, people tend to do what they feel, when they feel. The only thing I know is now that I'm a bride I realize the importance of getting back those RSVPs quick, cause it does drive us crazy not knowing

Ahhhhhhh, you really have crossed over!!!
Ok, I personally do my room immediately. BUT, I am an extremely anal person. The vast majority of my family are slackers so they will wait until the last possible moment do do all tasks, including this one.
Hate to say it but I don't think you're going to get a specific enough answer until all the rsvps are in
Deep breaths...

well.. I am obsessed with trying to predict how things may come out.. I love psyhics, horoscopes, fortune tellers whatever that may give some inkling towards the future.
I hate waiting.

I am in the same boat as you, my guests waited about 2 weeks, and now the hotel is booked almst solid, and who do they turn to......ME!!!!! I want to kill them all!!
Some people like to wait until the last minute, and then they get to stay at Motel 6!

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
Unfortunately Randi, I am the type of person you'd HATE to have on your guest list--I either reserve the room immediately or wait until the last minute--but I'm almost always a day or two away from the deadline (either a day or two early or late)....sorry to not be any help. Just take some deep breaths....

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
Yeah- well as far as all my guests are concerned- the deadline has passed. Unless they think that they have more time and I lied.
(which I kinda did- I just gave them the First date when rooms will be released)

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
It is tough to say on this one.....I had some OOT guests book plane tickets about a month before the wedding b/c Jet Blue had a great deal and it was cheap enough for them to come. Otherwise, they might not have made it at all.
Then, some of my OOT guests did not book rooms at all, and stayed with family or friends in the area. Finally, some of the guest booked at a hotel I did not block because it was cheaper by about $20-30 per night and was just as close as one of the other ones (that was the Red Roof Inn and when I called, they said they did not block rooms.) So, I guess my point is that if I based the # of OOT guests on the # of reservations at the blocked hotels, I would have grossly underestimated. Sorry to tell you, but I think you just have to wait for the RSVPs.
The other thing that one of the hotels told me was that if the guests called after the rooms were released and they had a room available, the guest would still get the reduced rate, they just couldn't guarantee the availability of the rooms. Maybe some people know that.

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
I hate to say it but most people are slackers. For my cousins wedding this past October, my parents (who were in charge of booking the room) waited until the week before!!! So you really never know. I would try to put it out of your mind until you start getting RSVP's back.

ya think even like the older people? Slackers?? All our OOT are like over 65 and live in Florida-- for the most part- at least the bulk of them.

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
Yea.....unfortunately, you're talking to a slacker whose friends are also all slackers and really wait til the last minute. I blame it on the fact that I really didn't know ANYTHING about planning a wedding/ blocking rooms and the fact that there was actually a deadline for blocking. I agree, I'd want to know too who was coming or not but if they pass the deadline, unfortunately, that is not something you should worry about. That was on them

Family would probably book much earlier than friends. I don't think my college friends will book until they get the invite.

I just sent out our STD's and like 15 ppl have already booked their rooms! If I was local and plannined on staying over, I would probably wait closer to the cut off date.

Re: Bridal Speculation-- If you were an OOT, when would you book your room?
So many people do things last minute. If you're not in a popular tourist spot during a tourist season I wouldn't worry too much about people not being able to get a room. Although personally, I would have booked a room by now for an april wedding.
