Ocean Bay Park, Fire Island - Rental

We are thinking of renting a house here for the week in July/August midweek.

I found a house that seems great and is available.

I've never done anything like this before, are there any questions I should ask?

Also, anyone know anything about that area?

I assume you leave your car at the ferry, how do get all the junk you will need for the week to the house? I can't see a wagon cutting it! Especially with all the baby stuff!

Thanks for your input!

ETA: we will be going with young children and babies. Is this part for families? or real heavy partying? I imagine we will go out a few nights while someone minds the kiddies, but mostly have our own fun at the house. the house is supposedly the closest beachfront to the ferry.

I had a share house in Ocean Bay Park. There are families there, but it is definitely geared towards partying. During the week should be fine, but on the weekends it gets nutty. A lot of share houses in that part of town.

I agree its a party atmosphere mostly becuase of all the bars esp. Flynns- which can get pretty loud as well. The better area for children would have to be Davis park or Sailors Haven. But I do have friends that have stayed there with children and had a blast they just mainly stayed in or by the house and not around the bar scene.

I have spent quite a few summers on FI - so if you have any questions please FM me.

If you are going with a family I would recommend Ocean Beach or Kismet over Ocean Bay park...they are more family oriented.
