I have a lot of grammar pet peeves:
1) The misuse of there, they're and their.
2) Same for your and you're.
3) People who pronounce "ask" as "ax".
4) These are often the same people who refer to more than one person as "yous" (the joys of growing up on Staten Island...)
5) Misplaced apostrophes drive me insane!! I have seen signs in fast food restaurants that say stuff like, "Free Big Mac's." I'm always like "Big Mac's what?"
There are SO many others....
I was in Neiman Marcus today. My FI decided to use the restroom and the sign said, "Mens Room." Hmm...MENS? You'd think SOMEONE would know that MEN is already a plural.
The misuse of then & than drives me a wee bit bonkers.
Those who don't realize that certain words are to be written in the past tense (i.e., I use to know a girl who...It's 'I useD to know a girl who...')
And Jax hit my all-time pet peeve: YOUS! Um, the collective form of YOU is YOU. It's never, ever YOUS. In all honesty, if I were interviewing someone for a job and the made-up word, YOUS, came out of his/her mouth, the interview would be over.
Ah, one last one before I get back to life. It's never okay to say, "I seen the movie." You SAW the movie, you didn't SEEN it.
LOL, edited for spelling!
In the case of saying "I SEEN IT," it would be acceptable to say "I've seen it." or "I have seen it." People forget that "I've" is a contraction for "I have". I agree with you though. It is very irritating.

Of course it's fine to say, "I HAVE seen it." My issue is with those who omit HAVE. My FSIL, whom I "love" dearly, constantly says, "I seen it." Sheesh, she graduated from college! I want to poke her every time she says it.

Im with you on that one. I think that people omit it because they don't know it is supposed to be there in the first place. Can I help you poke your FSIL? I have strong fingers!

Re: NWR: Grammar & Spelling pet peeves
Has anyone else noticed that everyone seems to think that it's "between you and I?" HUGE peeve! Grr, between is a preposition. It's between you and me!
I'm actually beginning to think that I may need to counsel myself in order to deal with this obsession :)
