Dog needs a home - Dog Rescues

We were at a pet store recently looking for another maltipoo because we have one.... So anyway, we met a woman who has a Standard Poodle, 10 months old. Beautiful dog. The woman told us she was starting a new job traveling so she needed to find a home for the dog. We told her the dog was beautiful but too big for us but we exchanged numbers just in case we knew of anyone else. So fast forward to last week the woman called my husband as said I haven't found a home and I am bringing the dog to the pound, I just wanted to see if you knew of anyone or wanted the dog. Well I was sooooo upset at the thought of this poor dog being dumped at the pound. It made me sick, so my husband and I said well we will take the dog this weekend and see how it goes with our dog. So we did and ufortunately it isn't going to work. My little dog was crazed. So I contact the woman and explained the situation. She was going to call me back because she knew of someone else who she might be able to place the dog with. I have never heard from her again. I don't want to give her back the dog because I am afraid she will just drop her off at the pound.

So now I need to find a new home for this doggy. I have been speaking with a rescue place and they will take the dog and find a good home for her, etc... But they are asking for a $300 donation. I was just wondering, does that sound legit to you?

Iam so upset about this, I just want to find the dog a good home.

First of all I think its wonderful that you tried to take the dog!!! It is a heart breaking story. The $300 donation does sound legit, only because we had to give up one of our Iguanas and it required a $100 donation. I would imagine its for feeding and other medical expenses until the dog is found a home... I dont feel its your responsibility to pay that though. I also dont think its right of this woman to put you in a situation and say if you dont know of anyone she is going to bring the dog to the pound.... So heart breaking!!!
I dont really have any advice, but maybe take a picture and post it or take out an add in the paper? Or put up flyers in your neighborhood and grocery store?
I am so sorry! Good Luck!

Yes you would have to pay for a donation because it would go towards that animals vet visit unfortunally what happens it these dogs become sick and owner do not want to pay vet bills so they surrender them to rescue groups who then have to pay to get this animal better to get them into a new loving home!! I do belong to a rescue group but it is for pugs!! I would call the rescue group back and let them know the situation and that the owner mention that she was thinking about dropping the dog off at the pound and the rescue group just might take her cause that is where they don't want them to end up!! Did u get any information on the dog neutered spayed shots etc.

Please keep me posted I hope this works out in the end!!

Denise

anything else I can do let me know!

I tried to find a poodle rescue group, but I cant. But if worst comes to worst, and you have to bring it to North Shore or Bide A Wee, a dog like that should get a home really fast.

Here's a google search I just did - there are many rescure groups out there!!

It was nice of you to take the dog, but hopefully you can find it a new owner.

Thanks for the comments! The dog is all up to date on shots and nuetered. Unfortunately there are no poodle rescue groups in the area, I looked. I spoke with the woman again and she assured me that they take the dog to the vet and keep her till they find the perfect home. Then when the dog gets adopted the new owners sign a contract that if they can't keep her they have to bring her back.

I know I am doing the right thing I just feel so bad.
