Laundry room etiquette
We have a laundry room in the basement of our co-op. Earlier when I put my clothes in the washer there were 2 dryers going and my washer was the only one in use. Well, I just went downstairs to place my laundry in the dryer and there was another washer in use that was not quite finished. I placed my clothes in the only open dryer, which I discovered was not working. Then another women comes in. I assumed to get the clothes out of the other 2 dryers. She walks over to the washer (which is now finished) and removes her clothes. She asks me if the one open dryer is broken I replied "Yes". She then proceeds to remove her clothes from the dryers and places her freshly washed clothes in. Now, my wash was done before hers. I obviously was waiting for a dryer. In laundry etiquette weren't the dryers rightfully mine? Or I am wrong? Or Should I have done what I wanted and just pushed her over and shoved my clothes in and thrown her clothes all over the dirty floor?

I would have done that...
but you're right...the dryer was rightfully yours!

I would've, but I have had such a stressful couple of days I was afraid that I would put her in the dryer also.

Oh my goodness , she so deserved that! how I WISH we could do the things we TRULY want to do sometimes, eh?
But don't get me started on laundry room etiquette! Its the sorest of my sore spots in our building as well (we have hardly enough machines/dryers in our co-op, so its always a battle to get laundry done) I have had people stand there while my laundry was finishing up, and the minute it switched off start removing my clothing and dumping my CLEAN CLOTHES on a communal (dirty)table ... when I was steps away from doing it myself. I mean it is perfectly fine if I neglect to get my wash out of the washer when the time is up.. that is cool .. but this is like STALKING my wash until it ticks off, and not even giving me 30 seconds to get it out myself!!
OK my vent is over
I DEFINITELY think you had the "right" to put your laundry in the drier, since obviously your laundry was done first. What did that idiot think , you were standing there and waiting for the broken dryer to fix itself miraculously

Re: Laundry room etiquette
That happens in my building too!!!
People reserve dryers by leaving their clothing in them until their other loads are finished.
Another question...Is it rude to take out another persons clothes from a dryer if the cycle is finished and just sitting there? I never know what to do.

Now that would have been my response.

Re: Laundry room etiquette
some people are so unbelievable CLUELESS!!! and it angers me Yes, you totally had the claim on the dryers. Did you say anything to her, like, "B*TCH--LAY OFF MY DRYERS!!!" (or maybe something more civil??). I let things like that get to me way too much, but seriously, people are so clueless (and some are just plain rude!)

Re: Laundry room etiquette
I would have said "here let me help you with that" and proceed to dump the clothes on the floor.

Re: Laundry room etiquette
Ugh. I hate the laundry room so much, I sent my clothes to the cleaners to have them washed. I can't be bothered with crap.

Re: Laundry room etiquette
In our old apt complex we had one washer and dryer for 4 apts. Well I was doing laundry one day and my stuff was in the dryer. I go up to check on it and it's OUT of the dryer and still damp, and someone put their stuff in. So I took their stuff back out and left a note saying "You touch my laundry again and you'll find yours in the dumpster". I had reached my breaking point with my rude neighbors.
