Ladies - can anyone recommend a hall......

After 20 places (for me and 17 for FI) we have decided to check out Brooklyn halls. We have covered a ton of LI halls (Nassau & Suffolk). This whole process is just insane.

The places we like are really far out and I'd be annoyed just driving out to pay deposits. I have horrible road rage.

So far we like Giorgio's, Villa Lombardi's (although they have a garden theme roon & too many rules), Fox Hollow (Garden Terrace room & outdoor ceremony but close to traffic), North Ritz Club (okay decor) and Jericho Terrace (which has no outdoor ceremony space).

Anyone know of any elegant Brooklyn halls with an outdoor ceremony area for about 150 guests.

We know about Buckleys (don't like the decor), Grand Prospect (need about 200+ to make the place look full) and the Botanical Gardens ($$$$).

If only we could take the things we like from each hall and incorporate them i.e., the gardens from Majestic Gardens but at Jericho Terrace.

Price is a factor and we do not want to go over $75 pp++. We are still aiming for 10/2005 and were surprised that some places still have Saturdays open.

Thanks in advance.

ETA - recap of the places we have been

These are the places I;ve checked but June 2005 pricing will be significantly higher.

You can always send the payments by mail or use your computer also. What are you looking for exactly so we know some places to suggest. And which places you visited?
Don't despair...you are likely to find a special place for your reception.

How about Westbury Manor? You can have your ceremony outside.

We want a place with a beautiful outdoor ceremony and cocktail area but it also has to have a nice indoor ceremony area in case of rain. We want gardens and maybe even waterviews for photos so we do not have to leave the site.

One wedding at a time is a big deal for FI but I'm okay with 2 events at a time (as long as it's not a Barmitzvah sp? or any type of kids party).

We want to stay at $75pp or less and we do not mind Thursdays or holiday Mondays.

Yes, the Cavalier Hotel is beautiful. It's a very old hotel in VA. My sister & I checked it out and you would not believe the pricing!!!! I left the materials in VA with my sister but a bottle of some dessert type liquor is like 4 x's the price. Picking a menu is very different from NY. Couples pick out entrees that are all priced out differently and I guess you put the choices on the RSVP? You need an entree count for the hall?

Try the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. I don't know much about it but I think they do weddings there. Just a thought.

That Goldilocks thing kills me every time.

Yeah, we are still looking. I guess I expected to fall in love with a hall (and have it be at least 45 mins to an hour from us. That is not happening.

Then again, Mexico is not that far by plane.

It isn't in Brooklyn and in fact is in Suffolk County but The Beach Club Estate is beautiful. Very Quaint! Right on Lake Ronkonkoma! 1 wedding at a time and beautiful grounds for pictures. We pd $85pp for a Sat day wedding in Sept.

Not sure on how big your guest list is but might be worth calling if it will fit your needs.

Oh wow... i figured it would be expensive, but i didn't think that much so! The only two VA weddings I've been to so far have been a buffet, and just some finger foods. I'll be at another 2 this year though (one in Richmond and one in Fredericksburg).

I was looking at the Cavalier website the other day and saw the ballroom and decided i wanted to get married there instead

An ex of mine worked at the Cavalier in the Hunt Room years ago (like 1995).

Yeah, I've been to a few VA weddings too and they both were finger food buffet types. My cousin had a church ceremony and a reception at some recreation center in Newport News? I know he got off really cheap - under $5K I think for about 200 people. The bride's family cooked most of the dishes.

Oh, and just for the hell of it I checked into the Waldorf Astoria. A cake & champange reception plus ceremony fees is about $15K for 150 guests.

I figured everyone would be pissed if I drag them to NY for cake and champange though.

Re: Ladies - can anyone recommend a hall......

Giando's is the only Brooklyn hall I contacted. You may also want to try Water's Edge in LIC.

I hate to say it, because it could open up hundreds of additional halls for you, but you may want to start considering Staten Island and New Jersey.

El Caribe is beautiful! Definitely check iti out, however, I don't think they have outdoor ceremonies, but I could be wrong.

Also check out wedding sites and services. They also have info on locations in BK.

Hi--Remember, many hotels have ballrooms where they throw beautiful weddings, just like the catering halls and some are even nicer. I would bet that there are many in Brooklyn and Queens.

Re: Ladies - can anyone recommend a hall......

Thanks ladies. I just spoke to my sister (in VA) and we came to the conclusion that VA won't work for me. I did not like the halls we checked and some require odd catering practices (i.e. putting entree selections on the rsvp).

We also determined that a destination wedding won't allow my must have guests to make it Not all of them fly (or do cruise ships). FI & I could always go off alone but I would not be happy with no friends/family around.

So, it is still a NY plan.

Re: Ladies - can anyone recommend a hall......

I had my reception in Brooklyn but the place I had it in doesn't have a place for outdoor ceremonies. They accomodate indoor ceremonies though. The food was excellent and the price was reasonable. I had been to several weddings there before my own and everybody always raves about the food and service! Its called Sirico's and its located in Dyker Heights. Garguilo's is also in Brooklyn but I don't think they do outdoor ceremonies though either. I went to a wedding at the Brooklyn Botantical Gardens. It was beautiful but very pricey.. Good luck!
