Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
Hey ladies-
I am thinking about booking a suite the night before the wedding for just me and my bridesmaids, but I am not too sure how this will flow with my mother. I think she is really looking forward to me getting ready at the house, but the closer it gets to the wedding, the more I am thinking that I would like to spend the night before with my friends, in which there would be no room at my parents. Also, then my mother could meet us there in the morning and everyone could get their hair done together.
I know it is tradition to get ready at your parents house, but what about if you haven't lived there for years? I am just flying up for the wedding, along with my bridesmaids, so I thought it would be easier if we were all in the same place.
Did anyone else have conflicts with this?
Thanks!

Your mother might be very upset about this. I know mine would be it is one day that they really want you home why not make them happy.

They thought crossed my mind also but I think I want to be home that night (then again I still live at home). It might be important to your mother for you to be there your last night.

everyones situation is different. I wish I could do this but my parents would just be sooo hurt because they're very old-school. You see the apartment we live in is sooooo small! I don't think i'm going to take many pics there. My BM are going to get ready at my FH grandma's house for this very reason. I feel like if I got a suite it would be awesome.....but like I said, it would break their hearts.

I think because you don't live at home, it should be fine. I want to do the same thing. My parents are OOT, so it probably won't make a difference. I guess you should speak with your mom to see what she says.
Where were you thinking of staying?

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
sarah-
I would love to stay at the Garden City hotel or Foxhollow inn.....
If I still lived on LI, I would not even THINK about getting ready elseware.. I guess the florida lifestyle has rubbed off on me! I guess many people who get married down here have more of a vacation feel to their wedding, so most of them I have been to the bride had a suite at the hotel. LI is all about tradition!
I am going to speak to my mother about it, and if I know it will really upset her, I won't even think about doing it. I have already changed the reception hall and church farther away from my hometown, and she was very upset at me for that. I think she would be more upset that the people in the neighborhood wouldn't see us taking pictures! I think it is a little promish, but if it makes her happy I will.

My Mom would have felt very left out, I didn't want to do that. I lived with DH before the wedding, so I sent him to his BMs house and all my girls came to my house in the morning and got ready together, along with my Mom, Stepdad and Dad.

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
oh boy.. I went through this same issue. I decided to get ready a hotel, and booked an additional room for my BM's. My mother was not happy about it, she wanted me to get ready at her house. I've been out of my mothers house for 10 years and I just thought there would be more room at the hotel to get ready, as well as many great photo opps, outside at Danfords by the water. Bottom line, she got over it. My sisters reminded me, it's my day, I should plan it exactly as I want. Now mom will join me at the hotel in the morning.

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
I will not be staying at my parents house. I told them and they are sad. I just want to get good sleep and some peace and quiet and my parent's house is not like that, especially b/c of other family that lives nearby and would drop in on the morning of my wedding. I stayed away from their house the night before another family wedding and I am glad I did because I was the only one who slept. I am not sure yet where I will get rready.

I think you should talk to your mother and explain to her that you would like to stay in a hotel room. Hopefully, as long as you extend the invitation to her to come and help you get ready, she will be fine with your decision.

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
I know I have to get a suite because I am driving in from NC where I now live and my parents live upstate NY so staying with them is not an option. Fortunately, my parents will be staying at the same hotel as me. I am also going to have my BM's stay in the suite with me the night before the wedding.

I am staying FAR away from my family's house on that day - it will be the center of chaos and mayhem. Besides, I plan on getting dressed where my wedding ceremony and reception will be held.

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
Danielle-
That is what I was thinking- there is no hotel at my location, so whatever suite I book, we will use the next night for the wedding night.
The other reason I wanted to do this is because my recept/church is 45 min away from my parents house on eastern li, and a lot of my bms are coming in from out of town- it would be hard for them to get a ride to my house just to catch the limo to get to the church. But, I know they could work it out if they needed to.
Thank you for sharing your stories!

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
We rented 2 rooms...one suite for me & my girls and one for DH.
We all got ready in the suite...mom met us there in the morning to get her hair & makeup done.
DH & I used the suite on our wedding night.

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
We are doing this, but and it's a big "but", my mom doesn't live in the house I grew up in, or a house I've ever lived in, so that's not important to us at all. And we thought it would just be relatively convenient, b/c we have a lot of people stayin in the hotel the night before and it's close to the rehearsal dinner place and the wedding the next day.
If it works for YOU then go for it. I'd probably chat with my mom about it beforehand though. But that's just me.

Re: Thinking about booking a suite for bridesmaids night before wedding- did anyone else do this, or did they get ready at home?
I feel the exact same way. I havent lived in my mothers house in years and honestly its not a big house and there is no where for me to sleep!! She turned my old bedroom into an office and as the bride I really dont want to be sleeping on a pull out sofa! Plus with 6 bridesmaids a wedding coordinator 2 photographers a videographer, a makeup person and a hair person there will be NO ROOM to move around!! If I get overwhelmed by all these people on top of me all at once I might freak out
Sooo we decided to rent a suite! Most my bms are staying with me the night before a few will meet me in the morning

Random Question
I noticed a post where you mentioned that you lived in North Carolina. If you don't mind me asking, where in North Carolina do you live? MY FH and I are looking to move down there after the wedding and were thinking of Cary, NC. IS that where you live? Also, what type of work do you do and was it easy finding a job?
Thanks! Sorry for such personal questions!
