Did you pick your fine china (repost from BHB)

Is there a material that is better than another such as bone china or porcelin (sp) .

We are having trouble picking fine china. My FI doesn't see the use anyway and then he agreed if we choose a set that is less expensive but I don't want less expensive to be cheap in quality

I know with china, my FI didn't really see the point either. But, it's one of those things that if you don't register for it now, you'll never buy it for yourself, atleast I know that I wouldn't.

Here is a link that explains the difference between the chinas. link

Re: Did you pick your fine china (repost from BHB)

I didn't really understand why we needed china, but all of the older people in my life (mom and friends) told me if I don't get it now, I never will ,and somewhere down the line I will want it. So whatever, we registered for it. Its by Vera Wang, i think its called blanc sur blanc. I'll try to post a pic.

I think China is just one of those things that you get once you're married. Isn't it like the first thing they ask you to register for? I'm going to be soooo afraid to use it because I broke almost ALL of my mother's china once when I had a little accident when I was younger

Unfortunately I am going to be of no help...We do not need to purchase good china due to the fact that I took my grandma's when she passed away...She had the complete set with serving dishes & it is Lenox...She might have used it 10 times!

Is that Opal Innocense?? I love that pattern but that is my best friends and my FI doesn't want the same as her

I love all the things that go with it too.

Re: Did you pick your fine china (repost from BHB)

the set shown above is my set also, lenox Pearl Innocence. it's VERY similar to Opal Innocence, but it's Ivory China instead of Bone China, and the accessories such as mugs, teapot, etc are shaped slightly differently. I LOVE it.

I love china. IF you really think you'll enver use, it pick our something inexpensive, or pick out one mid range set that you can dress up or down to use as both casual and fine china. That really saves on money and space! You cna buy a pretty dishwasher safe set that you can use every dya, but pair with some nice stemware and a nice charger for holiday use!

I absolutely love china, and I really think that if you don't get it now, you never will. There really won't be another occasion. Once you're married there will be the house, and bills, and choldren, and so many other things to aorry about, that buying nice things for yourself will never be a first priority again. but now that your wedding is coming, it IS a priority and LOTS of people will want to buy you china for engagement and shower gifts. It's a really popular gift, especially with the older generation. I already have 3 place settings and serving bowl of my fine china and I am So excited about it. i can't wait to use it!

I alos wanted to add that while it IS more expensive if you do break it, that china is actually a LOT more durable than stoneware and porcelain, is MUCH more resilient and resitant to chipping and cracks. Of course if you drop it on the floor ANY dish will break, but china is very strong. Most sets coming out are acually dishwasher and microwave safe (even some of the ones with metal banding on them), so they days of hand washing china are over for most people. Check the back of your plates or the manufacturers website for details on care and handling
